How Fast Is Your Max???? Mine Sucks...

Heya, I thought my knock sensor was done, but upon replacing it my car is still slow......
Is it because a max is a slow car???
Would you guys please time how long it takes you to reach 100km/hr (60m/hr)
I have NO mods to my engine at all...
How long should it take me to reach 100Km/h
I am going to test mine for speed here, please give me some results back so I can see how much or even if my car sucks.
thanks VERY much
Please oh please someone clock their ride

well the 4th gen maxes. automatic are supposed to something like 7.9 sec 0-60 (mph)...if u have a 5 speed it should be more towards the low 7 sec range....and if u time yourself and get like 10-15 sec then something is wrong with your car...

How long have you owned the car? How many miles on it? What mainteance has it seen in the past 24 months? What kind of fuel do you use? When was the fuel filter last replaced?

mines slow too, but i think its the coils. i hate the freaking hesistation, its embarrising.

when you go from 0-whatever notice if the engine climbs rpms smoothly or not. we have a very smooth power curve so it shouldnt be jumping around. also notice if hondas and other cars that think they can keep up with a grocery getter are hard to see in your rear view mirror. if so then chances are your car is operating correctly.

I have an Apexi Rev speed meter which really doesn't do all that much, but I can clock 0- whatever kph times. My best 0-80 (very close to 0-50mph, cause I didn't want to risk getting a ticket) was 5.4 seconds. All stock BTW.

I would recommend comprehensive maintenence as others have suggested if your Max is feeling slower than usual. Good luck.

I feel you too. I lost to a Max that had a y-pipe and CAI. He took me by 1 whole car. I use 93 octane, have new KS, and almost new sparkplugs. I dont know if its because my coilacks might be bad, or maybe I have f***ed up compression (haven't checked), or becasue I have an EGR issue. I have no idea what it could be, but it sucks.

I have had my car for the since Decemeber 2004. It has 171000 KM's
I have done nothing for engine, its been col.
I have thinking about chaning the spark plugs, doing that sea-foam thing that I read on here, and some fuel cleaning stuff.
I use 91 Octane.
The fuel filter suggestion sounds really smart.
The car just feels slow to ME, I have no compared it. I will measure my times tomorrow on how long it takes to get to 100km's.
thanks for the input..... I wasnt even thinking about the fuel filter.

Not to sound stupid but is your check engine light on? Also I would make sure all the general maintenence was done before you complain..

check spark plugs, filters (air and fuel), change oil if needed, etc etc. Our family always does a full tuneup if we dont know what or when the previous owner did so we can start at a fresh point.

Alright, I took the car for a rip
Id say I averaged about 9.5 secs .....
slow....
But, I think engine cleaning and the spark plugs will lower my time.
Suggested spark plugs or engine cleaners????
thanks

how about you check the FAQs

How to clean a throttle body

How to change spark plugs.

How to check your ECU codes

How to change fuel filter

Changing/checking air filter is a no brainer.. also check the PCV valve I mean this is all stuff you should check before you start throwing in cleaning agents and fuel injector cleaners into your car that might not have an effect.

is it auto or 5 spd? 9.5 est. 0-60 is no good. you must need maintenance. EGR will not slow up your car. Bad coils, plugs, filters, KS, o2 sensors, octane of your gas, all these could be affecting it. Change your oil, and filter. Try all of the above, and throw a y pipe on your car. You should feel a drastic improvement

Nissan Maximas are NOT designed to be dragsters. They are basically family sedans with some punch. Without extreme modifications, most cars are unstable beyond a certain speed.

If you are not doing time trials to break the sound barrier, then what is the point comparing 7 seconds to 60mph to 7.5 seconds to 60mph on a front wheel drive car that most people use for regular transportation?

I have a 97 Maxima with 178K on it. Routine maintenance, no modifications and it is an automatic. I use 93 Octane all the time. For a front wheel drive sedan...it accelerates and keeps speed well enough in town and on long road trips.

Just my 2 cents.

There are a few factors, when was the last time the plugs were changed, have you ever thoroughly cleaned the throttle body? Have you ever run seafoam? When was the air filter cleaned/changed last? All this adds up. Mine was sluggish to so I changed the plugs, got some noticable improvment, cleaned the throttle body, it ran real well after that almost like when I first got it, there is a lot of grime and oil build up in there, then ran seafoam....running like a champ and I swear by seafoam and throttle body cleaning now.

I would have got all that money you spent on mods and paid for some manual shift driving lessons (minimum 5). cuz it was definitely you.

I have a stock 99 Maxima SE-L auto with 75K and I'm probably running mid 7's to 60mph. Even my old 93 Maxima SE auto with 160K and a crap load of rust could do it in less than 9 seconds. Maybe a tune-up is necessary.

I just looked it up in an old Motor Trend mag.
Stock 5 spd- 0-60 is 7.1
auto 7.8
After several attempts to clock myself on 0-60 times i hit high 6's consistantly(my max is auto). In my opinion under 7 seconds to 60 is pretty quick. I have the y-pipe and Ram air intake with K&N- I can beat cars like the new eclipses, V-6 F bodies, integra's, all the gay civics, etc.

Since you only bought the car in December and appear to know nothing about its maintenance history, why don't you get it serviced? It appears you are not capable of doing it yourself and don't want to get cold. Quit b#tching about how slow your car is and do something about it!

It WAS cold, lets do our sprak plugs in our NONE heated garage when its -40'c
Yea, sounds like fun, hope your hand dosnt freeze to the engine.
I am a Computer Network Engineer, if you have notice from my posts I am gathering information so I can know more about my car. Im not just going to go replace everything. OBVIOUSLY. So, thanks for being a **** about it. Ill admit, I am new to cars, this is my first one. So I am asking the advice of other individuals.
I am more then willing to do it myself. So far I have done all my mods myself EXCEPT oil changes (too messy) Though I do KNOW how to do them since oil changes and tire changes was my job for 6 months.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
