Y Pipe, Flex joint broke!!!

I got the WSP Super Flo Y pipe. The Flex joint broke on it and started makeing a farting noise. I tightened it up and it still made that noise. So my question is, Sould I wield up the flex joint. So basically there will be no flex, what are the down side of doing this?

No I would not remove the flex and weld in a pipe. You need that flex there for how much our motors move on the mounts. Replace the flex either through a warrenty from WSP or just buy one. If you can't get WSP to cover it, it still won't cost much.

Do you launch the car hard and get wheel hop? That is a common way to bust the flex section.

Well, the flex joint is there for a reason? Maybe to keep the exhaust from rocking when the engine rocks? Im not sure if it will be bad or good. I dont think the stock pipe has one though.

no not at all what? If you weld it up and leave it I hope your headers or block crack. The gimmicky super flo ypipe is new so I'm guessing that warpspeed will replace it.

As it's been said in previous posts, removing the flex section is a very BAD idea. Our engines rock enough that the flex section serves a meaningful purpose.

Return it and tell them you are dissatisfied with the product and want your money back. Buy a Budget y-pipe.

What a piece of crap. Demand a new one. Better yet, raise hell and ask for all your money back. Then get a budget or Cattman y-pipe.

I hope Armani is reading this thread....

If you want to check why the Y-pipe has a flexible section, pop up the hood and ask someone to apply "light" pressure on the gas pedal while at park. You'll see the engine "turn" on its mounts.

If you don't have a flex, all this rotating pressure from your engine will be put on your mounts, but on your exhaust as well. So the force will work against your bolts and the shape of your exhaust. So it's not such a good idea.

Now you say the piece is new? Then you may try to get a new one, since it sounds like a manufacturing defect.

Else if it's old, you can buy separately the flexible section and have it weld at a local muffler place, i.e. Midas. A 50-70$ job, way less than a new Y-pipe.

Hope that helped

What do you mean by broken? If it broke, you wouldn't have been able to tighten it. As you can see there IS a flex on the superflow. It allows the pipes to pivot a bit when the engine moves around. Just a Honda type. You need to be more specific about what "broke"

If you decide on just getting a new flex-section welded on there, see if you can get one similar to the OEM flex-section. If you've ever pulled back the weaving on the OEM flex-section, it exposes an 'accordian' like metal that is highly flexible. There is no way for exhaust gases to make its way out of this section in the way that most aftermarket Y-pipes do, which eliminates the hissing, raspy noise. The weaving on the OEM basically firms and holds up that accordian section to reduce its natural flexing tendancies.

And like others have said, there is a reason for that flex-section.

just call warpspeed and ask for a new one. youd be crazy to try to fix whatever is supposedly broken.
