Brought my '05 in for 1K checkup

I just dropped my '05 SL in for its 1,000 mile checkup. When the service writer asked me if i needed anything else besides the checkup I said yes, an oil change and I have this steering wheel shimmy @ 60MPH. He said "Oh, the front tires are probably out of balance". I said, really... I subscribe to this Maxima dicussion board and the steerting whell shimmy is one of the major topics. He replied with, "I know that was an issue in '04, but they got that all worked out in '05." I guess we'll see. Stay tuned.

Wow! Didn't know anything about a 1K check-up. Where can I find more info about that? I didn't see anything in the manual and the salesman nor the Service Advisor mentioned it when I met him as part of the delivery checklist.

they'll take your money to tell you nothing is wrong whenever you want to fork it over.

there's a link to the schedules in the Sticky.

I am not sure if it's just a dealership thing or something. I have done it with my '02 Max and my '00 pathfinder.
They check all the belts, idle speed, coolant levels, air pressure in the tires and wash the car.

Is there a fee or is it part of the free 1 year maintenance that has free oil changes and tire rotation?

I got a goose egg from my dealer. 2500 miles now and no big problems yet. "knocking om wood" I hit a few craters and no shimmy. Every time I hit a little dip I think of you guys and pray the wheel stays stable. NYC is hard on cars!

As I am sure you all suspected, balacing the tires did not eliminate the shimmy problem with my '05 Max. Since it is an occaisional proble at the momnet, I am not going after it too agressively. Said to find out this is happening on the '05's as well.

I haven't had the shimmy yet, but I only have 500 miles on my max. I would expect that this should have been fixed on '05s since Nissan knew about the problem a long time ago. Oh well. We'll see. I see a few '05 owners do have the shimmy so maybe it's just a matter of time for me.
