How do you clean engine and engine bay?
I have next Tuesday off and would really like to clean up my engine and engine bay. Anyone have some tips or knowledge on what I want to use and how to do it? Any help is appreciated.
I go to the carwash, spray it with the engine cleaner, rinse it off, and go for a nice long drive. The only thing I use to cover was my JWT pop charger. In between the washes I just wipe it down with a rag.
Some people do not recommend this method, but I have never had a problem.

search through the detailing forum here on the org , i think you will find lots of info in that section on how to do right. i do it all the time, but take alot of precautions to be safe.
Examples:
walmart bag rubber banded around pod filter/intake filter ( if aftermarket)
tin foil - wrap up all electrical tight (neat way to waterproof it), also use the tin foil to make a shield over the alternator, and dont spray water in that area if you can help it.
take out a floor mat and turn it upside down over your intake manifold, the rubber side will shield that area. in this area that are places that will hold water, so try not to spray water in that area. also keep some towels around to dry up any water that gets down in these sections. again keep an eye out
take the garden hose, simple green or castrol super clean ( CSC needs to be mixed 50/50 with water) . spray a mist of water over the engine bay, then spray mist of cleaner over the engine bay, let sit for a little while depending on what the weather is like outside, you dont want to let it dry, just soak enough to start cleaning the gunk. then get to scrubing with ( lint free towels and any kinds of neat brushes you can find, some of the dish washing brush like thingys work good and reach tough areas)
then spray down with hose, and check for any water laying around. Make sure everything looks pretty dry.
grab the armor all. spray this stuff all over hoses and plastics and rub down again with some sort of lint free towel.
many people will say not to do this, i would do it with caution, again i have never had any issues or problems cleaning my engine bay, but water in the wrong areas could present you with a problem.
good luck
