valve relifs?

ok, something i noticed when i had my timing belt redone is the valve relifs in the tops of the pistons (the 2 divits in the top) are pretty much useless in our cars becausethe valves never stay open that long to need them..

so why is this?

is it because instead of putting parts made specificly for this car instead they just put a 300z motor on it with cams that have smaller *****?

Thats so if the timing belt breaks the valves don't strike the pistons! Without the depressions the entire engine would be toasted trash! Earl

I wish! If that's what they are for, they sure don't work. The problem is our engines ARE interefence type motors, so if the t-belt breaks, the engine IS toast.

yea when my timing belt broke i bent 8 valves or so...so i KNOW its not for that, i do know that camshafts with longer durations usually need relifs so it doesent hit in normal operation but these arent the case with our cars, i was wondering why they have them
