quick question for '99 owners

Just wondering if the 99 models have the push button release for the key, i recently got an entire leather interior swap from a 99 and im trying to swap steering wheel and air bag in my 96 along with the black plastic surounding the steering column but cant remember if the car i pulled it from had the button

Maybe they think the 5spd cars are meant to be driven harder and that they key might fall out ...thats the only somewhat logical explanation i can think of

yea, if you think about it, its messed.
Why would the key fall out of a 5spd, but not a auto...
Maybe they should focus on making better ignitions rather then lock buttons?

i think on an automatic it has a lock already, the key wont come out unless it is in neutral or park, am i correct?

I think the key comes out regardless of the gear its on. I think i turned my car off today when it was in R, took the key out, and then changed the gear to park... as far as I remember

Ahh, good call.
you can only take the key out in park. I remember this because I had my car is 1st so I could take out the deck and I remember the extemly annoying door beep beep beep beep...
Had to disconnect the battery.... Prolly should have dont that first anyways

The key will NOT infact come out if while the car is in gear on an auto unless that gear is PARK....not neutral, or any other gear...JUST PARK...99SE auto...thats the reason for the lock button on the 5spd, and not the auto

My best logical answer would be, It's a way to let you know to pull up the E-brake. In auto if the car isnt in Park the key wont release, letting the driver know that he/she has left it in gear. Im guessing 5-speeds are the say way, maybe letting you know to leave it in Neutral and pull up the E-brake.

My car is either parked in my driveway or in my schools lot. Both of which wont make my car roll anywhere. And It would be very very obivous if the secruity people see my car being pushed by a bunch of lincoln tech students....

You should never park a 5-speed in neutral.
