making the move to a 4th gen

hey guys ive owned a 3rd gen for some time and am getting ready to move on up in life. I found a 1995 max se 5spd. fully loaded with 172k on it. Is that too much to safely buy and not worry too much about serious problems? the guy is asking $4500 for it, but im gonna try to talk him down to about $4000, it looks good and there are no signs of it not being well taken care of. Any tips things to look out for ideas or anything would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Well I see one for sale today with 261K on it, which is the most I've noticed so far, and it seems to be keeping on ticking. Quite frankly I wouldn't buy a 95SE 5-speed with 172K on it. I have a 95SE 5-speed with 58K, mostly highway miles on it, but its not for sale.

Can't you find one with fewer miles on it, say 120K or less. Unless you can get proof that the owner has spent a considerable sum on repairs and parts over the last couple of years, I wouldn't even consider it.

Buy it for no more than $3500. I would run a carfax on it too. It does have higher mileage, and with all higher mileage cars, you're taking a chance. I would try to find one with fewer miles.

He's asking too much money. 2500-3000 tops. There's always something that has to be fixed on a 10 year old car. Don't assume that he took care of it.

WOW. 172k, and the guy wants 4500? its a 10 year old car.. he's out of his mind... just check auto trader for a sec and you'll find about 100 better deals, cheaper and with less miles.

I would say it's safe to buy if the seller has maint. records and you have thoroughly checked the car out. I bought mine with 175k for 3000 back in November and mine is a fully loaded 95 SE stick except heated seats.

I bought my fully loaded GLE (which is a 5spd now) w/ 165k miles for 2000 bucks... Even with the miles, I had 0 probs with it, and it is still a beast.

Dont pay that amount for that...you have to keep in mind that its 175 k. I was hesitating about getting my car with 102k, I def wouldnt buy something with that amount of miles. For that price range, you can definitely aim for less mileage.

What has all been replaced? What needs to be replaced? Check the ECU codes before you purchase it also.

I too, came from a 3rd gen to a 4th gen

I wish 4th gens had independent rear suspension like the 3rd gen. Try to find one w/less miles or get him to lower the price.

dont get it, that is too expensive. you can get a better deal elsewhere. would not spend more than $3000 for it.
