You have less than 2 quarts of oil in your car. Refill immediately.

thats not true where did you come up with that from.. if you read the hayes repair book the oil light has nothing to do with your oil being low.. its a light for the oil pressure being to low..

It's the oil PRESSURE light... it means your oil pressure is too low. It's not an oil level light. But it can be triggered from having low oil pressure as a result of low oil quantity. It can also happen with the oil level totally normal.

This is the exact problem I'm having! I had a new water pump installed and when I got the car back it was doing this. I think my father put in some cheap oil. Could this cause the problem? I plan on changing the oil and oil filter tomorrow and putting in synthetic oil since I have like 165K miles on the car. Is using synthetic oil
a good idea?

just to let you know, its not good for your car if you switch off and on using synthetic and non-synthetic. once you go synthetic, keep it synthetic and nothing else. i've used Mobil 1 fully-synthetic on ALL my cars. But no, i don't get the stupid Mobil 1 fully synthetic for like 100,000 miles or something since there's not once SINGLE filter made to filter that kind of mileage

It is an oil pressure light but yes if your oil level is low it will give you the exact symptoms you received, becasue it's not ab;e to pump the volume of oil required, so when you brake or corner hard breifly starving the pump of oil the light flickers, changing or adding a quart should make it go away, if it doesn't you've got bigger problems.

when he was braking hard the oil was sliding forward away from the pump and sensor, turning the light on, same thing happened to me, and I'm sure he didn't get anything over 2 quarts of oil out of his max when he drained it.

I know this. What's your point? In 9/10 cases the light coming on means low engine oil since there's not sufficient oil to build pressure. It can also occur if the oil pump housing is cracked in half but that's highly unlikely.

OMG. I know it has to do with oil pressure. No ****!! This has been established. But a severely low oil level (less than 2 quarts) will not allow the oil pump to build up sufficient pressure within the engine at low RPM and can set the light off. This is one possibility, among others.
