I want headers and y pipe for my max and was looking at stone racing. The prices look pretty good and heard mix reviews about them. I like to know if anyone has headers upgraded and notice lot of difference with the y pipe. (If it's worth it to get headers as well)

P.S. How much should I be expecting to pay for the headers on laber?

mixed reviews? all i've heard about stone mountain headers a y-pipe is negative. very little gains from headers, poor quality y-pipe, and fitment between the two, although they are from the same company, is not very good at all. don't go cheap IMO. just get either warpspeed, or my favorite, Budget (LSS Exhaust) y-pipe. you will pay less and it bolts right in.

 

the headers are a bich to put on, especially to get to the rear manifold. i mean its nice to say that you have it, and plus it sounds real nice with the correct catback. btw im reffering to cattman, that stone shiet is garbage i hear you have to cut it and shiet

i don't believe so. they have a whole system for sale y-pipe back. but not headers. as far as i know, the only headers available are stone mountain (boo!) cattman, and i think hotshots were being made? that was a while ago though, and i'm not sure how that all went about. but yeah, if you really want headers, get cattman cuz they are equal length and sound great. otherwise just y-pipe. you're only missing a few horses.

 

Nice. I think I'll be going with cattman headers. I just search through cattman website and couldn't find any headers. Any place to get them at decent prices?

 

Just take the headers out of your search...either Stone Racing or Cattman you will only gain ~2-5whp. The extra minimal hp you get isn't worth the time and $$ to install them.

I speak from experience...well, not full experience...I was the 2nd prototyper of the Stone Racing headers/ypipe.

how was the install. someone mentioned that stone racing headers will not fit perfect with the y pipe. and how much did it cost you anyways..

 

I paid a little over $100 shipped for both, which is why I said I didn't fully feel the pain of buying and installing.

The SR Ypipe doesn't fit on either the stock headers or the SR Headers...and that isn't anything Stone Racing ever fixed/will ever fix even though I gave them specs to work with to resolve the issue.

Oh well.

Basically the rear flange on the ypipe doesn't line up with the right (rear) header. A muffler shop will need to take the flange off and bolt in on. Then weld the flange to that piece while heating the pipe to 'coax' it into the general area. Cost me $10 to have them fix that problem.

 

how much did the shop charge for install. i have a set of stone racing headers but havent installed them yet.

 

I installed them with some friends...took us about 8-9 hrs to install including lunch.

The hardest, most time consuming part, was taking off the old rear (right) header.

 

was there any sound difference from the headers? i don't want it too loud..

 

No sound difference.

Only sound I had from my car was from the midpipe/popcharger combo.
After I added an aftermarket muffler did my car get more noticeable.
