what to do to prepare a car for an extended rest?

Story: My 96 was wrecked (actually not to bad, the insurance company just total lossed it) and I chose to keep the car. The car is going to be sitting for a while as I am swapping many of the parts to my new 99, and selling the rest as the car is still 90% untouched.
So my question is what should I do to prepare the car and motor to be sitting for a while?
P.S. If anyone is interested in parts its a 96 with 140K on the body and 55K on the motor. PM me or email me

I know they have those fuel stabilizer that you pour in your gas tank preventing it from turning into bad gas.

I've always wondered what exactly goes wrong when a car sits for a long time.

Most of what's in these threads applies:

The second one I started last fall. I stored my car from mid-December until early last month and it started right up without hesitation.

Im not going to be starting the car every month, it will just be sitting and im taking some stuff off the motor too so I definatly wont be able to start it. Im just wondering what should be done if its going to sit without any activity for a decent amount of time. i.e. drain all the fluids (or is this a bad idea)

As for the mods, just the basic stuff: custom intake, budget y-pipe, custom mandrel bent 2.5" ehaust, 2002 maxima muffler, FSTB, RSTB, short throw shifter, KYB AGX, Maxspeed Springs, Lightwieght Prime wheels,
Things Im swappin: Definatley STS, Probably exhaust

As for the rest of the car, the only wrecked parts are the driver side doors, front bumper, and driver side fog light, the rest of the car is just about mint. I have pictures if anyone wants to see

Why don't you just sell the engine, rather than leave it sit for an extended period?

Because I either want to take the heads off to get ported and polished, and the IM off to get some work done to, or if my engine blows which has 80K then I have an engine with 55K to put in

Well you might have to wait another 200K or so on your 80K engine, unless you intentionally try to blow it.

There's really nothing wrong with letting an engine sit for a while, as long as we're not talking years and years. As long as it's in a controlled environment, it should be fine.

Disconnect the battery. Top off all fluids. and put fuel stabilizer in. Inflate the tires to 35PSI.

crapsack218 - i need the grommet and intake sensor piece ( not sure what its called_ that attached into marked plug in photos. this is the piece that plugs into the injen intake, or any sort of midpipe that has the hole. there are two plugs on is for the maf sensor and the other one the grommet inserts into. can you look and see if you can find this piece for me ? should be a small circular rubber piece and a small thin piece that inserts into the intake. i think its used as a sensor of some sorts. if you can locate the wire. follow it to the end and uplug the little piece

you can email me at ceasar@ceasarschariot.com or pm me here at the org, will be checking the thread also.

photos:

air sensor piece inserts into this hole

that is what the grommet looks like a small rubber piece and the other piece inserts into it going into the midpipe hole
