I'll be replacing my clutch very soon. Has anyone had any good or bad experience with nissan or other clutches?

Any info is appreciated.

 

Nissan clutches are fine.

ACTs are good also and feel similar (pedal is a little firmer) than stock. Though they seem prone to chatter during break-in. The chatter seems to vibrate in synch with the engine on stock motor mounts - I guess stiffer mounts are one fix.

Get the flywheel resurfaced and replace the t/o bearing. Have the engine mount inspected or replaced as required.

unless your going to be beating your max hard or drag racing all the time dont get anything past a stage 1 clutch, its just not necessary.

but i heard great things about a 5th gen clutch so thats what i just put in my car. bits a little harder but yet still easy enough so that girls dont complain about it when they ride with me. also if you go this route make sure you dont get a key value clutch as they can be prone to sucking.

My experience with Exedy has been good aswell.

 

Get the fifth gen setup, many people like it, including me.

 

So the 5th gen clutch has no fitment nor contact issue with the oem 4th gen flywheel? So I don't have to get a 5th gen flywheel? What other benefits come with this aside from more bite?

Got a 5th gen (non key value) clutch kit from everyhtingnissan.com for $160 shipped... cant wait to drop it in...

It looks like the 5th Gen clutch is the way to go. Is there anything else needed for installation other than the kit? I assume the kit comes with the throwout bearing. HAs anyone had any problems with the install that we should know about before geting started?

Same here, I'd like to know exactly what's in it so that I can make sure I have everything when I start the clutch job. I went to everything nissan's site in their online catalog and didn't see the 5th gen kit nor any clutch kit.

 

Damned summit racing and their back ordered Fidanza flywheel...but they said it would be coming in on friday...

The kit includes the disk, cover (pressure plate), 1st shaft bushing, and release bearing (looks much more heavy duty than the 4th gen)...Total of 161.04 plus 9.00 freight...

Other than that all you need is a cheap little clutch alignment tool...

Everythingnissan sounds like the way to go. I called Courtesy Nissan in Texas today for a quote. They quoted the following for 5th Gen clutch components:

disk 87.03
cover 94.54
Throw out bearing 28.22
Pilot bushing 4.31
2 drive axle seals 5.57 x 2
Shipping 24.88

Total $250.12

 

They do have a 1-800 #. It is on their web site. 1-480 # was their number off of the sales invoice, but the two number go to the same place, as I have used them both before.

 

The breakdown from everythingnissan.com (infiniti of scottsdale) was:

disk- 54.95
cover- 77.85
release bearing- 24.50
bushing- 3.74

IMO everythingnissan is MUCH better than courtesy...

 

I just called Everything Nissan and they can't find the kit #. Can anyone give me a part# for the entire kit?

 

There is not really a kit # per se, but here are all the #s for the parts needed:

32202-B9500 BUSHING

30505-41U20 RELEASE BEARING

30100-2Y904 DISC

30210-2Y920 COVER

 

OH! So what's the $161.04 plus shipping? Is that what everything amounts to? So this is everything that I need for a clutch job. I still have to get a rear main seal because that is what is causing my clutch to slip now, the oil is soaking the clutch.

 

Yeah, these 4 things amount up to the 161.04, and it is everything needed to do the job except for a clutch alignment tool.

I got the rear main from them also. The # is 12296-31U20 for 30.43, and that aint bad for a new rear main. I figured I would replace mine while I am in there because I do have a slight seep.

Everythingnissan sounds like the best deal. I called yesterday and they quoted the same prices to me as stated by 130ds except they quoted me $82.06 for the cover. I asked for a '00 cover. Not sure why there is a difference but its negligible anyways. Bladerunr found an ad in the back of Car and Driver for nissan parts from brownandbrown. They are another dealer in AZ, apparently. I emailed them at nissanparts@brownandbrown.com and requested a quote. I'll post the results. Not likely to beat everythingnissan but worth an inquiry.

Sounds like replacing the rear main seal at a cost of $30 will be worth the effort. I'll order one of those while I'm at it.

I'm ordering these parts today and I can't find the bushing. I looked in all the clutch & flywheel sections and didn't see it there. What is the bushing for? thanks.

 

Ignore it. The pilot bushing is a PITA to change and doesn't contact the input shaft. On other cars, the input shaft has a nose that fits into a pilot bearing, but on the Maxima it doesn't appear to have any such feature. I think the bushing is there so that a standard clutch alignment tool will fit properly.

If you want an extra pilot bushing anyway, I've got one on my workbench.

Well after having to deal with some issues with Everything Nissan, I would like to say that I wouldn't recommend them. I have had to resubmit my order twice because their website wasn't working correctly. And then, when my order finally came thru, they decided to increase the prices. I decided to cancel my order with them. I would like to share this with others who are planning on ordering their 5th gen clutch kit from Everything Nissan.

I'm not very happy at all with their customer service.

 

Should have called the 1-800 # from the get go. That would have saved you some effort right there as you would have been dealing with an actual person instead of a computer.

As far as the price increase, it sucks, but thats just bad timing. I ordered my parts right before a nissan wide part number change was made to the clutch disc along with a price increase... it has nothing do with infiniti of scottsdale, it was a corporate nissan move that effects ALL dealers. Infiniti of scottsdale is still giving you the whole sale deal...

 

Why have a website, an e-commerce website for that matter, if calling in an order is the only way to get the orders right? If they can't keep the level of service on their e-commerce site, then why have it? Why aggravate people and then **** them off further by having incorrect prices up? I understand but when you are on a budget and you have all these things that needs to be done to your car to keep it going, $20 is a big thing. I'll just keep shopping online for the meantime. If I don't find any online, I'll go for aftermarket.

 

Anyone ever heard of Luk clutches? There's a deal on them here.

I've also noticed that many internet sellers sell clutch kits and the disc is the Exedy brand, like this.

 

Luk clutches are the same as key value i've got one, i know.

 

Everything nissans got to be the worst website to deal with, but their CS on the phone is excellent. I just orded my clutch setup 178.04 shipped with pilot bushing, release bearing, pp, and disk.

If you notice at the bottom of the web page, it is powered by trade motion which is horrible... I have had problems with trade motion web sites with other parts dealers before. The CS on the phone is excellent and I have always used it as soon as I noticed the whole trade motion thing.

 

I ordered everything from Pinnacle Nissan yesterday, no problem whatsoever with online ordering. It's also powered by Trademotion. Their online prices have not been updated yet at the time I confirmed the order so they are giving me a break on the clutch disc. I got a KS from them a couple of weeks ago and everything went smooth as well. I now have a favorite Nissan online parts source.

 

Before I started doing business with infiniti of scottsdale, I used infinitiparts.net (swell infiniti) and they were powered by trade motion and that site never worked properly. In fact, they are the ones that got me started on just calling in my orders by phone. When I switched to scottsdale, I simply continued the trend. By the way, where is pinnacle located...

 

Pinnacle is in Scottsdale, AZ. To me first impression is important. I actually talked to a parts guy on the phone and my impression from these guys is that they provide awesome customer service. And he made me feel confident that they will do everything to get my order right after telling them what I went thru with the other dealer. As for their website, it worked the first time for me. And they are great at replying to my emails. They have to order the clutch disc but i'm hoping that my stuff would ship today or tomorrow.

My car is slipping badly now, driveability is becoming more of an issue. Good thing I work from home. I really hope my parts get here by the weekend so I can get my car running again.
