Pics of my first mod! Dallas Taillights!

Okay, so after much stress and many mistakes and black tar EVERYWHERE, I actually finished the DTM mod! I'm SO happy with how it turned out and I'm actually pretty proud I did it myself. I did forget to put the screws back in one of the indicator lenses though . That glue is pretty strong so hopefully it will hold the lense on!

I've got one concern though, my indicators are now white and they aren't really too noticeable. I'm not sure if this is legal or not so I think I want to find some brighter orange bulbs to stick in there. Any suggestions on where I can find some and what to use?

I've never posted pics before so hopefully this will work out right! Check out my Car Domain for some more.

Did you clear them out yourself or did you buy them?

I did it all myself. When you seperate the lenses from the housing you just take out the orange and clear reflectors that are in there. Now, there are no reflectors in front of the bulbs, just the lense and the plastic housing behind that I painted black. All I had to pay for was a $5 can of spray paint! Nice and cheap.

did you put in the florescent light covers ... it looks like the light from the bulbs is not being dispersed now because you removed the orange and clear pieces

also why does ur trunk lid say es?

No, there are no covers at all. I don't really want to try figure out how to cut one but I may eventually, I kept all the reflectors. The light is still a little brighter but the picture doesn't really show it.

My Maxima is an ES model which was only sold in Canada in 1999. It just pretty much a lower level of the SE trim. No leather, sunroof, spoiler, or Bose but I've got the SE rims, suspension, gauges, steering wheel, traction control and LSD.

Very nice. Can you tell me exactly how you did it? What type of paint did you use? Did you spray inside or out?

also...how long did it take you?

Thanks

The first time I actually saw this mod was on Caracicatriz's sig. He sent me this link: http://www.vqpower.com/v2/modules.ph...howpage&pid=66 and it's a great writeup with pics. VQPower actually has a lot of great DIY writeups. It doesn't take that long to do, but because I'm new at this all and I don't have any mechanical knowledge/experience it took me probably about 10 hours. I made a few mistakes too. I started on Saturday night and got to the point where I seperated my lenses, then on Sunday afternoon I painted them and put them back on.

I also put a little writeup on my Car Domain page but its not detailed like the one above. The paint I used was actually for bar-b-ques. It's just a flat black spray paint that can handle high temperatures. The inside of the housing behind the lenses is actually what is painted.

It's a pretty easy and cheap mod. It could have been easier for me if I used the heat gun a little more to heat up all the adhesives. I got black tar all over my lenses, but it came off easy with some Avon bath lotion my Mom has.

Its called "Krylon BBQ & Stove Paint". It withstands temps up to 1200 degrees. I painted it in the garage. I didn't do it outside cause the mosquitos are bad! I wouldn't recommend doing it in the house though.

Oh yeah, it's flat black in color.

Oh, sorry! I painted the inside of the lights. Not the lense, but the plastic housing behind the bulbs.
