the 1-2 hard shift... but now the 2-3 ??

so i've gotten used to the somewhat rough shift from 1-2. Now the 2-3 shift is equally abrupt and it's getting me more worried than annoyed. I just want the tranny to last a little longer. I bought it at 78k last may and now its at 95k.

the only time i won't get an abrupt shift is if i run each gear up to 3.5-4k. only then are the shifts smooth. but that puts more strain on the engine. i duno how to drive it now; rev it high? or just regularly with the rough 2-3 shift?

Does it slip (lag) during the shift or jsut quick and abrupt? I'd be happy with the latter, but not the prior.

what kind of tranny fluid was used? Also, you might want to check the tranny dipstick for metal particles. Make sure the transmission's not slipping, have it in 3rd gear, at about 35 MPH, just before the 4th gear upshift, then apply 3/4 throttle, and see how long it takes for the tranny to catch up with the engine. If the RPM's surge, most likely your transmission is slipping. My car had the same problem, but on my transmission, the 2nd and overdrive gears were not engaging. This led to a VERY jerky shift from 1-3.
