probably hitting something on the sides unless you actually left a big @rse rock inside the pipe while installing it.. but even that was true, it would've came out.. so that doesn't make any sense.. (maybe stuck by the cat. conv.?
LOL) damn I'm still feeling the jim bean I had last night.
yea back to your story, raise your car and shake the y pipe really hard and see if it hits anything.. if not, i'm guessing your just not used to the ws y pipe sound yet..

Did you mess with the heat shield that runs above the exhaust underneath the car? I have had a couple of the heat shield bolts break they can rattle against the exhaust occasionally. I have removed some of the heat shield and added support to the remaining shields.
hmmm, i dont know....DAMN MECHANICS!!! i dont know, my mechanic did all of the work, so i dont know.....the thing i dont get is cause it's only in first gear.....like, it's only the firsat makes that rattling noise....after first it doesn't make that noise......
In my auto - it would make a rattling noise at about 1500 RPM and only in gear. It was just the perfect resonance or whatever.
Anyway, I basically had to sit under the car while someone was sitting in the car keeping the RPM's up - so that I could find the rattle. I just had my Y-Pipe swapped Friday and it took me about ten minutes that afternoon to find the culprit - which was a bolt just in front of the rear passenger tire by the last bend in the exhaust which had bent just a little against the heat shield, presumably from the lift they used to get the car up.
That heat shielding is a pain in the ***. In my other Max, the exhaust outlasted that stuff and I had it all removed at around 180,000 miles. It was falling apart and rattling everywhere.
You'll just have to get underneath it and find it. Go section by section poking, prodding, and shaking it. Just remember that the damn thing is hot.
