I have heard that NGK sp are the best for the Max. I am not going to buy the NGK cuzz they are too expensive. THey are $19 each! So i was thinking in getting the Bosch Platinum Sp. Are these good spark plugs or wat? Wat other kind do you guys recommend other than NGK????

 

you run the possibility of fckin up ur coilpacks if u use plugs other than OEM NGK.

$19 is too much ... actually I spent a little over 100 for all 6 of mine, but you are looking at the wrong dealers.

yeah dude....you should should search through the posts, theres so many spark plug posts....you MUST use ngk, copper and platinum are both fine....any other spark plugs, you are looking for costly repairs...the bosch sp DO NOT work well on maxima engines, they f**k up the coil packs and who knows what else...ngk is a must, there only 60 bucks at the dealer

 

This has been hashed to death ad infinitum. Only run NGK plugs. Since the NGK platinums are too expensive for your budget, go with the NGK coppers - part #NGK BKR5E - 11. Avoid the Bosch and all other manufacturers' spark plugs like the plague.

 

Couldn't agree more...Bosch is only good in chevy trucks...thats all...theyre freakin worthless

bkr5e-11 is what you need

 

Stay away from the Nissan dealer for spark plugs, unless you want to pay through the nose. I don't live in the US, but there have to be a zillion auto parts stores that carry them for a heck of a lot less than you'd pay at the stealership. Try Auto Zone or whatever they're called.

This has also been asked a zillion times. Iridiums may be better for boosted applications, but otherwise don't bother with them.

Interesting to see that Courtesy Nissan doesn't even stock the NGK coppers. I have yet to talk to a stealership or other parts supplier that recommends them. Everyone tells me to stick with the platinums, which I intend to do.

 

I've said it before and I'll say it again (what's up, rmurdoch ): The fact that everyone says stick with NGK plats doesn't mean that there aren't other alternatives.

NGK Platinums are the best balance of cost, spark strength for energy, consistency, and lifetime (60k miles).

Denso Iridiums = best spark w/ least energy, 30k life
NGK Iridiums = better spark than plats, longer life than Densos (possibly longer than plats)
NGK Coppers = better spark than plats, lowest cost, 15k life, spark degrades over time (could be dangerous!)

Bosch Platinum multi-tip plugs are a gimmick, at least as far as our cars are concerned. They don't create 2 or 4 times the spark like Bosch says they do, they just spark to whichever of the electrodes is closest; when that wears down, they spark to the next, and so on. Quality control doesn't seem to be as good, so they fail more often, and the multi-tip designs may actually interfere with the flow of gases in our combustion chambers.

 

denso's are for toyotas. ngk's are for nissans. bosch's are for bmw's. the ngk coppers will be almost exactly like the plats. only dont last as long. they are about 1.50 each at my local dealer. the plugs are for a Nissan 98 Frontier. the part number is 2240150Y05 and the platniums are around $10 and their part number is 224011P115

 

$1.54 @ my Nissan dealer .. installed yesterday ... $9.98 total price. 3rd set in 100k.

Should this be the price to expect at a dealership over here too? What dealership are you going to? I'm gettting quote $14-$15 over here for the platinums and about $10 for the copper ones ... if they even carry them.

They're you bad, I got all 6 of my coppers dor under $10 ... Use the Nissan part #'s provided here for the Cu's at www.pinnaclenissan.com

 

If you need copper plugs, just buy them at a decent price at an auto parts store. For all the aggravation of ordering them online, you are only going to save peanuts at the end of the day and have to wait for them. Don't sweat the small stuff!

You also have to factor in the extra aggravation of paying LOTS of attention to your car after the first 7k or 8k miles to watch for plug deterioration, plus the cost (in time and money) of having to replace them more often.

 

I know two of the dealers around me do (including JR nissan) and I would bet courtesy does too...they sell them for altima's. Part number 22401-50y05 I believe.

 

How about the NGK - BKR5EGP (NGK G-Power Platinum) Would those be suitable? They're selling for $2.68 each here

The NGK PFR5G-11 are $16.12 a piece.

For those guys who want the NGK coppers, just go to PepBoys or Autozone with the NGK part number provided and get them there. For those that want NGK platinums, buy them from one of the many OEM parts dealers that wholesale parts - JR Nissan parts, Pinnacle Nissan, nissanparts.cc, etc.

Alot of people say to stay away from Bosch. To my suprise, when I went to check my plugs, they had Bosch Plat 4. They only had 3K miles on them since they changed them before I purchased the car at a Nissan Dealer. I was just suprised that the dealer would stick that in there. NGK's seem to be the most recommended around here, either platinum or coppers. I difference in power is really not noticable, as my highest 1/4mile trap was produced with the Bosch Plat 4. BUT, my mileage wasn't great with those and I averaged 27mpg on steady state cruising in a fairly light wind day at 80mph while I average 30mpg on a similar conditioned day at 80mph. Around town it was worse, and I went through a gas tank quicker with the Bosch.

 

I doubt the dealer put the Bosch plugs in. The previous owner probably did sometime before he traded the car in.

 

The invoice from the tune-up listed that they changed the spark-plugs among other things, though it didn't specify which kind. I would assume that would mean they stuck in the Bosch since it was in there.

 

If thats the case, I would avoid that Nissan dealer like the plague.

Plats last longer but at your age, you don't have much time left so the coppers will be fine ...

just replaced mine with, denso double-platinums--$6.50 ea. I've been running on bosch platinum's for the past 30,000 miles and hanshin coils. Still no problem, my engine feels much stronger now that I have the denso plat's in there. It just proves that with proper care and driving, even bosch's will work out fine!
