AC questions

I have a 99 maxima, with 145k miles on it, and I'm thinking my AC is starting to lag.. when it's really hot outside, it goes on and off from pretty cold, to feeling like the fan. When it's not too hot, it seems to work fairly nicely. So it's about 6 years old, is that about normal for an AC recharge?

Thanks.

cant tell you unless you give us some gauge readings. to do a performace test. start the car up and put the ac on to the lowest temp, and then turn the blower up all they way, and put it on recirculate. get a themometer. and put it in the vent, and close the outside vents. rev the engine up to 2000rpms and check the temp. it should be around 40-45deg. and go out side with the hood open and open your throttle a little bit to 2000 rpms estimate it. and feel the line that has the (L). it should be damn cold. btw if you need a recharge, most likely you have a leak. cuz it takes a long time for refg to decompose.
