Dropping My Car.. But..

I'm soon to drop my car, But one my friends gave me a Stillen Lip(for free), because it seems he ordered 2, how..i dont know.. so now i got a stillen lip unpainted. My question is im about to drop my car, but if you know how NY streets are, with the bumps and all the high sidewalks, what Springs/struts would help me to still be able to get up on sidewalks without scraping? Or is that impossible?

Sidewalks are for people, not cars, jk Im riding stock now, and i've scraped a time or two on high curbs while pulling into a parking space with at least a minimum drop of 1", and a lip thats maybe 2" lower than stock, i'd say stay away from curbs and stuff! I'm buying my s-techs w/ illuminas today, and im already trying to drive like i'm lowered to get used to it! Just my 2 cents, maybe someone whose already lowered can be more helpful. Hey, see if he "bought" 3 lips!!

Everything that smokeyone said is true, I have a 2" drop in the front and 1.75" in the back with a full R33 kit to add to the problem. Basically you have to retrain yourself how to drive, begin to memorize the streets you drive and remember those that you can't. Becareful when pulling into driveways or parking lots, alway approach from an angle. It helped me alot when I switched from 17" to 19" rims it brought the car off the ground a little more. I had a friend make ma some custom alluminum skid plates to put on 2 specific scrape points so I wouldn't mess up my kit.

I just installed Tein basics and dropped a conservative 1.3" in the front, 1" in the back. I now BARELY clear the curb, without a kit... Best bet is to get a similar coilover system to be able to adjust your height to what you're comfortable with - but you still won't be clearing jack with that kit, lol.

lol, i was guessing that.. And to rome06, yep free stillen lip kit . Saved me the trouble of buying one myself. Asked this question because have alot of friends driving civic's and integras, and this one girl i know civic is low as low gets, Car looks like a mini, and she has the lip kit also. She basically said she doesnt go up driveways for example to get some mcdonalds, she park it and goes inside. I was thinking of doing that, going at an angle..

i had the skyline bodykit i got the kyb gr'2s and the eibachs , i live in queens. my body kit cracked and was destroyed because i was crossing the george washington bridge. even just the drop now its still hard to go into a gas station , i dont know about the stillen how big is the height on that? but hitting a pothole means 40$ for a wheel alignment you better WATCH OUT, and night time is worse when you dont have h.i.d's or fogs you can barely see the road coming

Try Tein H techs since its not that low of a drop, I installed my stillen kit yesterday and can clear speed bumps with no problems, I'm only on Intrax and not in NY. This may not be good advice but if you get 18z you can get a 45 series tire (this will throw your speedo off) but you can drive with regard to this and have little more breathing room with the lip.

Instead of installing the Stillen lip you can install the ludalip as a "training lip" to figure out where you can drive and can't after you are lowered. Stillen is also urethane so it won't damage like fiberglass.

coilovers..

I would go with true coilovers if i were to do it all over. Add it up: AGXs 450, Sprint Springs 170= 620. For a 100$ more you can get in on the Ksport TRUE coilover kit, and you cant get better then those for the price.

Here is some pictures with a sprint drop:

slight hill

I never have to many problems scraping. Sometimes on large speed bumps.

Its up to you ultimately though. Opinions are like *******s.. everyone has one and they all stink!

Good luck man!

You will scrape and crack the lip once you lower your ride. Streets in nyc is horrible. You'll never know when the next pothole will appear.

LOL, I'm ride on 4X4.

Hey guys, im looking to lower my car as well, im thinking of going with tokico hp series struts and tokico springs or sprint springs, anyone have any experience with any combination of that? Also, will the maxima need a camber if it is dropped 2 inches?

My car is pretty low, i'm in nj. i go to the city sometimes, and thats kinda bad. but city driving, wow. you're gonna be wasting your money in a way. civics and accords are different. with my accord, i had it lowered with one finger gap all around like i have it now, and it is WAY higher. i was able to clear my school speed bump no problem, i can't with my i30. so you can't compare it to other cars since the chasis is totally different. When i drive in the city, i go all over the place. they think i'm like drunk or and idiot, but then when they see that i have rims and lowered, they realize what i'm doing. always go on an angle, onto parking lots if if can see it raised.

trust me, a kit with a drop in the city = your car being in the shop more often than you're gonna be driving it
