480 Miles On Tank Of Gas

New record for me, I got 480 miles on 17 gallons of gas last week on my 01 Max. I kept the RPMs under 3k and the miles went up from 425 to 480.

What kind of mileage are you all getting from 5th gen Max's.

All City = 300 miles

All Highway = 400 miles

Mix = 350 miles

On the average I get about 16mpg in the city and 23 on the hwy.

I've gotten over 500 miles on a tank when I drove from PA to SC. I think I filled it with 16.5 gallons.

I average 27 on hwy and 20 in town. I use Seafoam in every other tank as well as good gas.

Wow

I only get around 375 to a tank and thats at 16.5/17 gallons... Does anyone know how long (on average) you can go when the gas light comes on? I have gone about 80 miles before. I just want to actually fill the car up to 18.5 gallons like the tank holds. Sorry if this is a repeat question but I am just curious...

i went to myrtle beach last week. i could have gone close to 500 miles per tank, but dont want to chance running out in the middle of nowhere. usually fill up around 1/4 on the gauge

i got 27mpg highway with some decent cruising speeds(85+) dropped to about 26mpg in the mountains.

Couldn't tell you how far you could go but to the best of my knowlege the is approximately 4 gallons left in the tank when the gas light comes on.

I right now have 191 miles on half of the tank, and computer shows that I have 150+miles left. The most I got from city driving is 320 miles, that's like 20 miles per gallon. Highway should be over 400.

besides 02 sensors, air filter, and fuel filter, waht else can u do (parts replacement wise) to improve gas mileage?

i'm about to try to get in the 400 mile club....i drove like a B*tch a few tanks ago shifting under 3k, and only redlining once or twice that tank and got 290 miles all city....i would be happy if i got 350+

Do air intake really save gas? Which one is the best one?

not sure about parts besides the ones mentioned but here are some other tips.

Keep your tires properly inflated and balanced.
Avoid aggressive driving and quick starts and stops.
Travel light.
Stop speeding.

I went from Toronto to Louisville and got 540 miles before a fillup. That's doing a good 75 the whole time. My readout on mpg reports 35 average.

Has anyone else had similar experience with a CAI? This sounds like nonsense to me.

You could also try shifting gears at lower RPMs... I've gotten a lot more out of my gas by shifting at 2500 instead of over 3000... I know, it sucks to be slow... but if ya wanna save some gas, it works.

So the cold air intakes do increase fuel efficiency, huh. Maybe I should get one???

Those of you with "amazing mileage" on a tank of gas. I am HIGHLY skeptical. 500 miles on a tank is almost 18 gallons used at 27mpg which is pretty impossible.

So my .02 is YOUR TIRE SIZE is a HUGE factor in this calculation. Some of you with ricer rims with the different spec tire that has a smaller diameter will get significantly more miles per tank than ACTUAL. 225/45/17 even is smaller by a lot... I average 400 per tank now with the advance timing (never hit 400 ever before the advance timing to 17 degrees).

all u dam 6th gear 5th gens should make a seperate thread...you and your better gearing already put u at a huge advantage.

For those even getting 350+ city or highway miles that are slightly above norm, please list:

tire size
rpm u shift
average throttle u give (in every gear if possible)
mods
and any other info that might help give reason to why your car gives better gas mileage than my car

best i ever got was 290 all city
shifting at or below 2500 every time
sometimes giving up to 80% throttle
stock tire size
tire pressure i believe is 35-37
no advance timing
completely stock (may need new fuel filter and spark plugs due to regular maintenance)

My stock 2000 automatic GLE barely ever gets less than 25mpg and offten sees 27+mpg, unless I get some gas that it doesn't like. I am going to try to find someone around here that can advance my timing for me because it seems that everybody that does that gets an increase in gas milage.

does weather affect the cold air intake since it sucks in cold air?
