2 days 1600 miles!!! still running strong.

Just got through my trip from texas to MA and it feels good. I just had one ticket the whole way in NY for doing 75 in a 65mile/hr zone. The car itself has 160k miles on the odometer rigth now and i never had any problems at all. It goes to show that all the input form the members helps out a lot from flushing the radiator and and oil and the transmision. but otherwise it wasnt a bad trip after all.

It's good to know that if I want to take my VE on a road trip, it would do it no problem.

This winter i drove from Chicago to Phoenix twice with a total of about 4000 miles each trip. Never had a single issue on a 165000 mile VG and trans. Great roadtrip cars. on one of the trips i averaged over 30 mpg so i cant complain at all.

yeahthe gas mileage on mine wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. the whole time i was averaging about 85 from texas and i had about 450miles to th full tank. For me that wasnt too bad. And i was suprised when i used almost $170 in gas for the whole trip.

I drove from oklahoma to philadelphia and back last december, and again from oklahoma to philadelphia this May, with no problems, (except a flat tire outside indianapolis in a fricking thunderstorm on the highway at night). Changing a tire during a thunderstorm in the dark while trying not to get run over isnt fun, but other than that everything went OK.

drove to LA from SC last year, then recently drove back. that's 5000miles total. coindentially, I drove for 35hrs on the road both ways, 90% of the time I drove at top cruise speed of 95mph and mine is a vg engine. what is the top speed you guys were able to cruise with a ve? is there a way force the vg to cruise at a faster speed?

The VG will cruise at any speed on its speedometer believe me. And most of the time it's so quiet you can't even hear it. It's just a "V"ery "G"ood engine

Los Angeles to Camp Lejune, NC is a fun drive; cruised at 90; ran over a 22" tire tread in "middle of nowhere" TX at 2:15 am. not pretty.

Did you guys have any problems after the trip ie noises..etc. On the first trip from Oklahoma to Philly and back, no problem. On the second trip from OK to PA, the rear passenger spring makes a slight creaking noise when I drive on uneven philly roads. On smooth surfaces, no problem. Also, I feel as if the engine runs a little noisier than before (Probably only in my head). Any ideas if anything needs to be checked?

These cars do great for long distances. On 2/3s a tank so far we have 240 miles on the trip odometer. Which is pretty good for having 1/3 the tank left of gas.

thats interesting because the cruise on my ve won't hold after 95 and i really wish it would with all the 105mph trips i've made going to Purdue.

I am going to do a long trip this summer (Seattle <--> LA). I plane to change oil, flush radiator, flush transmission fluid, belts, hoses, etc. before doing this long trip.

My Max is still in great shape (105K) so hopefully everthing will be OK

yes, if it has never been done before, i wouldnt recommend it, you will actually blow seals and stuff if you have never changed the tranny fluid, the seals kinda adapt to the fluid

I have been flushing transmission fluid regularly every 20K so hopefully it will be OK this time. Thanks.

Make sure you check your tires. (Spare as well). If you read my post above, you'll see why.I also went to firestone and had them look over the car to spot anything that might be needed. They will check belts and hoses and stuff. Cost about $20. Not sure if it helped but sure gave me piece of mind. Luckily for me, my transmission mount gave out the day before I was to leave, so got that fixed before the trip. I wouldnt bother with tranny flush, too risky. Radiator flush....sure if you want to. All I did was the oil change and the checkup.

You know you're dealing with a sad car when people have to brag that it went 1600miles without breaking down.

you can flushed the radiator system if you want to,

but i would recommend because to keep the internal of the engine clean and from building up rust,
