Cant be speed sensor on tranny since speedo works well. Is there another sensor that is replaceable behind the cluster? I went to the dealership today and they said no, but I remember reading on here a while back that there is one.

8 times out of 10 its a cracked solder joint on the circuit board at the back of the odemeter if its working intermitently.

 

I just bought a '97 gauge cluster. All '95-'97 will work, plug and play.

 

Again, weird responses. Since the car is a 1996, it should have a mechanical ODO. It used to be you could get an ODO repaired, but since very few cars utilize a mechanical one anymore, the men who used to repair ODO's have now gotten higher paying jobs, like working with high speed fiber installation. I'm not kidding, in my grandpa's days you could remove your ODO, send it out, and it would come back rebuilt and set to whatever mileage your heart desired. The latter promoted a lot of fraud--enter the digital ODO. I remember him always having that problem with Volvos. Same thing, numbers stuck, but speedo fine.

 

I havent clocked any mileage in two years. I'll check that solder thing out.
