High rpms accelerates engine wear. Piston speeds are higher, bearing loads are higher, etc. If you get thrills from high revs, go right ahead... but do not kid yourself about the consequences.

Just drive the car as you like to drive it. The engine is very well made and will not destroy itself if you rev it to redline every so often. If you rev it redline everytime you accelerate, well that's another story. Just maintain your car and it will take care of you, that's all you can do to keep the car running forever.

I usually upshift at 4,000 rpms or so. I don't really open it up to redline unless I have some "room to move". But I probably have it up to redline at least once everyday. My car is well maintained. I use Mobil 1. I let the car warm up on start up. I use lift-throttle upshifts. I match revs on down shifts. I have 173,000+ miles on the car at this writing. No smokey exhaust. No drips on the garage floor. No strange noises coming from the engine bay. Great car! Enjoy... but be safe.

yup, u should warm up your car. just dont rev ur car too hard every time you drive. those always cause problems later on.

Here's what several mechanics have told me.

Warm the car up real well, do not rev high until engine is warm.

Frequent oil changes really help the engine last.

The engine is designed to run for a long time, if proper maintence and driving habits are practiced, then redlining the car doesn't accellerate wear too much. It does increase gas though.

I rarely redline mine, but I do take it to 6,000 occassionally. Depends on the mood I'm in. Frankly, I'm not too concerned about it, I've had several cars and driven them this way and they've all been fine. My cars always score higher on compression tests than cars with similar mileage, so I'm happy. I'm sure I drive harder than most average, non-enthusiast drivers though.

it shouldnt be that bad

as long as your motor is warm...and it is safe on the road to do so. My uncle's 240Z is on 350k miles and on occasion he still redlines it. Damage wise...it souldnt me that bad if it is on occasion.

Your chances are better with a Maxima than many other types of cars.

I rent these cars and of course we all know that people treat rental cars well. Just about every single person we rent one to, catches a wheel out of the parking lot or deck.
I've seen some just sit there with the gas mashed to the floor with the car in park just testing the rev limiter, watching the needle bounce off the 6500 mark. Some perhaps are just listing to the engine sing.
The bottom line is -yes it does accelerate engine wear. Will anything happen? Most likely not. It's built to rev. And we have never sent one of these 400+ cars to the shop.
Pretty good control group for an experimenting with the reliability of cars first hand.
We have a few in the 70,000 range just because they stay feeling, looking and performing like new. We also abuse the oil changes (regular 10w-30 nothing fancy)-some go 7,000 to 10,000 in between changes which makes me cringe, but when customers keep the cars out longer than they originally intended its difficult to control. I have one of these that I got for next to nothing.-literally- Doesn't eat oil, gas or anything else. No knocks or pings -nothing. Regular maintenance and it goes like new and its well over 100K. This is a solid car that can take a beating.
