air coming from under the dash

Hey guys,
Just driving home today as usual like anyother day, however for some reason today I noticed a ton of air blowing onto my feet while i was driving. I did not have the a/c on but I did have my windows open. I immediately asked my passenger if they felt air, and they replied yes - a lot. The perosn had said that they were feeling air coming from the floorboard area under the dash near the console (where you put your feet on the passenger side). It is quite ackward because they said their feet were literally feeling cold from the air. I had hit the recycle button to see if that made a difference and it sure did. THe air had stopped coming through. What could this be?!?!? I have never really noticed this until today. Let me remind you that I did not have any a/c, heat/ vents running at all. Any help is greatly apprecaited

Thanks in advance...

EDIT - have a '98 GLE

umm....thats what that button is for. if you haven't noticed, when it first starts to rain on a hot day and you have you're ac running, it smells kinda funky. i find it useful since when its not that cold out and i'm driving, it keeps me warm without having to put the heat on. but its normal.....n kidna suprised this kinda question came up...hymm...

It will blow where you last selected. If I have mine (Auto climate) on and the feet only selected then turn it off, I will get the air on my feet with the windows open or even windows up sunroof open. It seems to work out perfect for me. I have never been uncomfortable in the car. I think it just could be there so fresh air can enter the cabin.

I have the same ...issue. Except I will call it a problem. I can not imagine that it is a
'feature" for the heat or a/c to come on when you have shut the climate control system off.

Sorry but no solutions yet.

why would you call it an issue or problem when EVERY car has it??? If you believe that its a problem, then every car you buy will have that problem. BTW, if you haven't noticed, but if you press the recycle button, the ffans blow harder whan the AC is on or heat. this is the fact that its not using any outside air. Auto climate or not, you will still have this so called "issue" or "problem"

it is normal, just turn on Recylce Air and it turns itself completely off. otherwise it will always blow.

the ducts for the ac are still open therefore air still comes through, i noticed this a long time ago, if u set it to blow to your feet then turn it off, air is still comein through the main ducts down to your feet, same if you last set it to blow out the main dash vents. i normaly turn it to defrost so air doesnt come out of any vents. when you change where the air blows from you should hear a lil mechanical noise, like a whirling noise, then the air changes where its blowing to, after the AC is off air still comes through since the car is in motion and is still catching air. if you are not in motion you shouldnt feel anything.
