What size fuse should i run with a 4 guage wire?

 

use cylindrical fuses for those wires, much more reliable.

 

Size would depend on your amp(s).

 

I am running a 1200 watt Rockford Fosgate amp and a 600 watt Rockford Fosgate amp

 

The maximum amps for 4 gauge is 125 I believe. A 100 amp fuse should be sufficient.

 

dont you just add up the amps on the fuses in the amps. Like if there are 2 25 amp fuses and 1 30 amp fuse, wouldn't u only need a 80 amp fuse?

 

That's my exact setup (plus a 50 and 30 amp in the dist. block splitting into two 8 ga.) and it runs fine. I believe that is how you do it.

 

i have 180 worth of fuses and i run a 170 amp main fuse

 

well as long as ur MAIN fuse is the same of i guess a little lower its not big deal. the last thing u want to happen is the fuses on ur ampifiers go. then problems can start occuring.

 

The fuse in the power line is for the wire and should be based upon the maximum that wire can handle. The fuse on your amps are just that, for your amps. The maximum current draw for 4 gauge should be about 125 amps. I would suggest a 100 amp fuse, its fine to use a smaller one but definately wouldn't recommend going bigger than 125 amps.

 

i just finished installing a 60 amp fuse to my 4 guage and everything works good now.
