Tool Set for MAX

What's the best tool set I could get for tinkering my max? also will a 2-ton Jack be good enough to lift a 95 MAX off the ground and keep it off, or would it be best if I get a 3-ton?

1 ton = 1000 lbs

max weighs in at slightly over 3k for the intire thing, but your only lifting one end at a time so a 2ton jack is fine.

As for tool set, a variety of sizes of screw drivers both philips and flat head

a 10mm rachet....95 percent of the bolds on the max are 10mm
a metric tool set is basically the main thing you need

if you wanan spend the money a torque wrench, spring compressor, other things like that, a breaker bar helps but you can always just slip a pipe on the end of your wrench for that

one ton is 2000 pounds. Are you telling this person to buy just a 10mm socket? Lol

The first tool you need is a Haynes manual. There is a section at the front suggesting what tools to get.

I bought a 263 piece Craftsman toolset for $190 at Sears. It will have 99% of the tools I will ever need for this car. And get a 3 ton jack as they will, usually, raise the car higher. I have a 14" 2 1/4 ton and it does not have the vertical clearance I would like. So, I went out and bought a second, 3 ton jack that raises the car 21".

I actually recommended this one to Ty, though im not too fond of its tool "chest", you will need a universal socket and some extension bars. it was still an awesome deal. as for the 3 ton jack, no experience, but ill take his word for it.

1ton = 1000 lbs was a typo, and im telling them to buy a metric tool kit, saying the 10mm is probly one of the most important on the max for small jobs.....

i read that section, it's not very specific (i.e. what tools offer best quality).

Nope. But it does include a ton of sockets from 1/4 to 1/2" drive (deep sockets as well) as well as plenty of allen wrenchs.

Get snap-on tools if you want the best. $3,000 for a 148 peice set. Okay you probably dont need the best at $3,000, so a Craftsman tool set will do. Also get a 3 ton jack, you'll be glad you did.

Jump on ebay when looking for tools, you can find great used tools with lifetime warranty's for good prices. I went on a huge shopping spree today for tools since I just got a new job as an auto tech and spent a good penny. I bought a few new items from online retailers but most of what I got came from ebay. I picked up an Ingersoll Rand 2135TI 1/2" drive Titanium Impact Wrench (brannd new), some SK 1/2" drive 6point metric impact sockets 8mm-24mm standard sockets and 10mm-24mm deep sockets (all brand new), a variety of oil filter wrenches (brand new), Snap-on 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive ratchets with snap-on 1/4" and 3/8" drive metric sockets (all used) (the SK impact sockets will serve a double purpose and be used on the 1/2" drive snap-on ratchet), a SK 1/2" drive micrometer torque wrench (brand new), SK 12" adjustable wrench (used), SK 18" breaker bar (brand new), Astro Pneumatic Plier Set (new), two magnetic mechanic's dishes (new), a SK 15 piece metric combination wrench set 8mm-22mm (new), and a 5 piece set of Witte Maxpro screwdrivers (new). I picked all of this up for about $930, and while it is still a ton of money, we're also talking about mostly SK and Snap-on tools here (Witte also makes some of the nicest screwdrivers you can buy), and if I was to buy all of these new off the truck I think I would easily be between the $1500 and $2000 mark. It was hard to find any used SK tools on ebay that I was looking for which is why I bought everything new from them minus the adjustable wrench, but used snap-on is always readily available and I think I got pretty good deals on the ratchets and socket sets considering their condition and what they normally sell for new. Sadly...I still need to get myself a toolbox. These guys better give me a raise in the near future after spending this kind of money in order to do my job! *sigh*

Stanley tools are also great, they have a retailer on ebay, they sell their tools for dirt cheap.

I bought a set of wrenches 8mm-19mm for $10 shipped. it was a killer deal.

Craftsman would be best for quality and price.

Essential tools:
a good set of screwdrivers (phillips and flat)
a metric rachet & socket set with at least a 6" extension
a deep metric socket set for working on larger bolts in hard to reach spots
a breaker bar
a set of various type pliers
3 ton jack and jack stands
halogen light for working under the hood or under the car

(FYI, Most common size bolts on the maxima are 10mm, 12mm, and 17mm)

I know, my dad has a socket set that he bought at a SEARS around 13 years ago and it's still good.

need:
pliers
breakerbar

won't get halogen because working at night on motor is a royal ***** anywayz
