I was on the 5 freeway going North past Laguna Niguel this morning when I went past a newer Accord with tinted windows and rims. I slowed down and let him catch up to see if he wanted to play, and then it was on. As soon as he saw me slow down he gunned it, I changed lanes to give him an opening and waited till he was about 3-4 car lengths back and then floored it. He passed me by about 1/2 car length and then I steadily walked on him 1,2,3,4,5 car lengths and opening. I ran it up to about 110 and got a good distance in front of him, which was rather easy due to no traffic/cops that early in the morning. I let him catch up again, but this time he came up a little faster. Again I pulled on him up to about 110, then he kinda kept pace behind me. He started catching up a little so I gave it some more gas, trying to keep it at 115, when suddenly my car started slowing. This immediatly scared the crap out of me as I thought something had just happened to my car! I looked down and saw the speedmeter had crept up to about 120. I gave it some gas but nothing, wouldn't accelerate again till about 105. I toyed around with him some more, and we both got on the 55N. He got right on my bumper in some traffic, then I gassed it and left him 10-15 car lengths back, when he flashed his brights and got off. Damn speed limiter!!! Gotta get rid of that soon. Overall a pretty good race I think. I'm sure he'll think twice before trying to race a Maxima again!!!

I used to have a 94 Accord and it also had a limiter. Teh 94-97 LX had a limited but the 94+ EX has NO limiter and 98+ LX has no limiter. That damned limiter is always frustrating...

I'm not really sure what speed it kicked in exactly, but it felt really weird. I think I was maintaining about 115 for a little while, then it suddenly lost power and started drifting down. When I looked down for any warning lights, the speedo was just below 120, but I don't think I ever passed 120. It was like the car suddenly decided that was close enough and cut it off. What else was weird was that it would not respond to throttle till it got back down around 105. All I know is I need a new (GLE,SE,Gforce) ECU. It sucks to finally have Z rated tires and not be able to really use them.

the speed limiter on the GXE kicks in at 112mph.
why it might kick in at 125 or 117 or 120 for you is because nissan's speedo is OFF by at LEAST 5 mph on the high end, why? because its bascially a safety measure so you dont DIE at a higher speed. basically. they want to make you THINK you're going 143 when in actuality, you're going like 125 or something.

you can RE CALIBRATE your speedo if you have like the apexi Rev/Speed monitor or a techtom MDM-100 where you can see the actual speed and then move the needle manually (not recommended for novice modders) to "calibrate" somewhat so it will register the real speed.

as far as the speed limiter goes, if you're going over 110+ on anything BUT the 5, that's a really really stupid idea. because freeways here in so cal really aren't meant for speeds higher than 100. the 5 is decent if you going to SF from LA, but i'd avoid going over 110 on anything here... not i dont trust MY car. i dont trust the roads (i.e. pot holes, dips,)

I think your roads out there are better suited for high speeds. Come hang out in the northeast for a while. Uneven roads all over the place, although, the Mass Pike is smooth. Prime reason why I don't want to lower my car.

There are plenty of smooth fast roads in the NE, you just have to find them. I don't think any are in MA though.

I grew up in NYC and most of the roads there are jacked up. The FDR and the Belt Parkway(between Pennsylvania Ave and Coney Island) is like driving on a stadium truck race track. The BQE near Sunset Park has all kinds of patchwork(although, that was my favorite road for racing my friends) The MA Pike, RT3 (going to the Cape) and 495 are good roads. RT93 going thru the Finacial District is another story.

In the Bronx, the Brucker elevated, and the part from coming down off the elevated to the interchange with 95, the Bronx River, the Deegan, the Hutch. In Westchester, the Sprian, the Thruway and 95, 287(when they finish with construction, and the lower part of the Taconic. The city does suck though. Actually the Clearview and the Cross Island are nice too, but Highway has too big a presence.

Sure there are smooth roads here in MA. My top speed testing grounds are 95 heading to and from NH. Thats where I max'd out my Mitsu VR4 to 155 mph. I have yet to max out the Maxima because I haven't lowered it therefore I feel the car isn't stable enough. I have pulled 100 mph in 3rd gear and then had to let up due to traffic (rt93). And also I gunned it onto a curvy onramp at 70 mph when the back end let loose but luckily I regained control.I think it was due to the factory tires having too soft of a side wall.

Cross Bronx has to be the worse in creation tho.

True dat, although they did fix the bridge between Manhattan and the Bronx. You were able to put the car in one of the 4 inch deep ruts (they really were that deep) before and let it steer itself.
