looking to SC, Qs about tuning
looking to SC, Qs about tuning
Im planning to get a supercharger very soon and im just trying to understand what I need to do for it to run properly at higher boost levels. I am going to get a Walbro 255 pump, maybe bigger injectors and a Z32 MAF. I just want to get this straight, on stock injectors I will need a FMU to make up for the fuel and with bigger injectors I will need a SAFC or eManage to adjust the fuel flow at the injectors.
Is there any reason to go with either the SAFC or eManage in my situation? I have a carpc in my car with a 7" screen in the dash so its probably better for me to go with an eManage. Also, is there a point to go with an aftermarket ECU such as a JWT? Thanks.

stock injectors + stock MAF + FMU + S-AFC
A simple effective way to go, but certainly not optimal. You will be limited to about 290-300 hp due to too high of fuel pressure and injector duty cycle. The FMU will get your AF ratio in the ball park then the S-AFC can be used to fine tune. I have been running this set up for a few months now on 5psi of turbo boost and put down 260whp. A fuel pressure gauge is necessary to run this set up and some dyno time is gonna be needed.
E-manage + any injector size + A32 or Z32 MAF
E-manage can be used with really whatever you want. It is a very flexable piggy back system. To get the most out of it your gonna want a wide band o2 sensor that can data log along with a lap top and tune it yourself and avoid paying for dyno time. There are some quarky things about e-manage that would take a whole thread to get into, but guys on here have had pretty good success with it. Just takes some time to get it all working right from what I have seen. You won't need an FMU or SAFC with e-manage.
ROM tune. ie; JWT ECU
What I am going to be using as soon as they get my ECU back to me. In a perfect world a ROM the best way to go. It is reprograming your stock computer to control all the functions you want. If you knew how to burn chips, make daughter boards, adjust fuel & timing maps, had a dyno on hand, etc....then you could make the perfect program for your car. But I am sure you don't have those things or those abilities. What we do have is the JWT ECU which is an off the shelf program that will control larger injectors, Z32 MAF, rev limiter, and adjust fuel and timing maps. It will not be the perfect tune, but it will be safe and reliable. Making changes to it is another issue, if JWT is willing to do it then it would cost a $100 bucks a shot and you would need to provide them with dyno graphs and/or data logging info. Even then the changes they make, if they are willing to do so, may still not be right and you would have to go throught he process over again. Using an S-AFC on top of a JWT ECU is a good idea to fine tune the AF yourself. The off the shelf program is fine, but it will not be optimal.
Then there are other things like a full stand alone and an SMT-6. So basically there are numerous ways to go about tuning your boosted car. It comes down to what your looking for. If you really want to get the most out of your car and push it to it's limits then a fully adjustable system like e-manage with all the bells and wistles is what you need. If you just want to put down some good #'s and are looking for safety above all then a JWT ECU may be what you want.
