SES light/No pressure in gas tank

I checked the archives and can't find anything on this.

My SES light has been on for a little while. I ran the codes and it seemed to point to the EVAP cannister. I noticed a strong odour of gas one time and proceeded to remove the gas cap. When I unscrewed the cap, there wasn't a hissing noise. I decided to replace the cap with a new one and reset SES light. The light stayed off for a day and thene came back on. I checked the new gas cap and when I unscrewed it, the was no hissing noise. This leads me to believe that there is a leak in the system.

Any advice? Also, where is the EVAP cannister on a 2003?

Thanks

The EVAP canister should be located at the rear (drivers side) underneath the vehicle. I would perform an EVAP pressure test before changing any parts. When performing this test you can isolate which EVAP part is defective. BTW, exactly which DTC did you pull?

does the car perform differently in any way?

If not, then its just a ghost code....my car used to to the same thing and it just stopped one day. There is one thing you can do; cut the tie strap for the gas cap off and remove it from around the filler neck. If the CEL goes away, then you're set...if it doesnt, post the actual code and we will get to work on it.

Your ecu thinks there is an evap leak....try cutting the gas cap retaining strap off and removing it from around the filler neck. Let me know what happens

yours are the evap cannister vent control and evap control...try the gas cap thing i suggested. If that doesnt work...have the dealer perform an evap leak test.

I've reset my SES light after filling up. I made damn sure I turned the cap through three clicks. I hope that SOB light never comes on again. I'll keep you posted.

By the way, no stopwatch is needed to reset SES light. Just count one one thousand, two one thousand>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>....
