Has anyone figured how to stop the passenger air bag cover from rattling. I have a '99 SE-L. I searched old threads. All I found, were solutions for the pillars and console rattles. No one has a solution for the air bag cover.

Is this a dealer item?

since it is 99 year, you are still under factory warranty, go to dealers for replacement or fix of this problem.

Spoke to a dealer service manager. He said, there is a one year 12,000 mi. adjustment warranty (bumper to bumper type coverage). Then a three year 36,000 mi. limited coverage.

The rattle seems to fall within the adjustment period. But, I would have to take the car in for inspection.

Thanks for the tip.

Sorry, but thats a BS, when you buy car from dealers, they always say 3 year/36,000 miles from bumper to bumper full warranty. Your service guy bs you to avoid doing work. Call nissan and inquire aboutt his problem, or go to any other Nissan dealers. Also manual will tell you the same thing 36,000 miles/3 year is bumper to bumper warranty, unless your car doesnt have salvage title which voids warranty.

Re: Re: Rattle

yeah, the car is good for 36/36K and even more if you have a silve or gold service pact.
geez, these dealers seem incredible..."adjustment period?"

the heck is that?

btw, what exactly qualifies as a "salvage title?"

Salvage title means that car was in some kind of car accident and taken possession by insurance company and resold at wrecked car auctions, and it could be either rebuild or sold for parts only.

As soon car has salvage title and records it voids all warranty from Nissan.

Considering it is a safety issue, you may want to pursue it further. A defective air bag that will not deploy in an accident, I would think, probably falls in the same category as a defective seat belt. Keep pushing and see what happens.

salvage title

just wondering though, if someone owns a car with a "salvage title"--it can be insured by insurance? and if the car is ever in an accident again, would the insurance company pay out (and insure) the car as any other car?

curious about that...since someone mentioned something about this in the off-topic section.

I agree about this being BS. I will pursue this.

Thanks,

your insurance will be a high risk, because in eyes of insurance company your car is a high risk as previously being damaged and doesnt have any warranty. Good luck on owning salvaged car.
