ambient air sensor in '00 and '01

i'm trying to help a friend in boston install a berk midpipe and apexi filter on a 2001 se. everything seems pretty cut and dry except for the peice of plastic that funnels air from the front of the car to where the stock airbox is (it's mounted over the radiator). it has the ambient air sensor in it. i'm sorry i don't have a picture of it. it's the factory peice of plastict that air goes through on its way to the factory air box, just before the MAS.

i had a stillen filter on my 97 that had a hole in the head of it for just exactly this sensor, but i can't figure out where to relocate the air sensor on his car.

do i have to keep the part where it is? i really want to get rid of it, as it looks a little redundant now. i read the other thread about berk filters and midpipes, and someone had asked this question, but no one had an answer for him.

has anyone with a '00 or '01 relocated the ambient oxygen sensor, or has everyone just left that plastic "ram air funnel tube thing" where it is?
thank you guys

That is not ambient air temp sensor. That is air temp sensor for the intake. You should keep it close to where you install front of your intake. If you unplug it, you'll get SES light.

The AMB temp sensor is behind the grill, infront of radiator, much lower.
