Supercharge my Max or get new car?

I'm stuck between getting a 2005 Mitsubishi Evolution MR Edition and supercharging my 2k1 Anniversary Edition 5 spd Maxima. Which one should I pick? I can only get so much outta my VQ30DE. FWD vs. AWD turbo. I'll let you Maxima people decide!

depends on you. What do you want to do? Maxima is a sports sedan while the Evo is just a small car with a big engine. Think about the future and let your expectations guide you. I wouldn't do either..... keep the Max and enjoy a sleeper, just my 02.

wouldnt the overall cost of the evo be WAY more than SCing your max?? your comparing apples to oranges....dang i think that is the econ side of me, oh well.....but like most said, think about what you want for the future and you decide, as you can see most people said Evo....if you think about it, the dollar value is much higher, its like if i said would you like a $1 or $5....duh $5....k im thinking too much in this. good luck!!

On the contrary, the Maxima is a mid-sized sedan while the EVO is a sports car with a small yet powerful engine. A supercharged Maxima won't handle as well or be as fast as a potentially modded EVO. But an EVO won't be as comfortable or roomy as a Maxima. My $.02

How about a 99 3000 GT Turbo VR? 4 wheel steering, 4 wheel drive, Turbo V6, a back seat (not too usable). I was about to buy one and then realized I had a family and we would never use it so I came to my senses and bought a Max. I wouldn't turbo the Max. The torque steer is already exterme and then you might have issues with CEL, intakes, fuel management, tranny, etc. If you can get a two seater then by a used Corvette. They aren't the best built car but by far the sexiest car for the money.

Ever drive an Evo??

They are a fast car, they handle great, brake great and are easy to mod. the only problem with an Evo is that ignorant people automatically associate them with ricers and street racers. calling an Evo a **** box is just plain dumb.

A max with every non FI bolt on can just barely take a stock evo on the highway, however with a cheap boost controller on the Evo... the game is up.

If you are looking for something you can make really fast, handles and brakes great off the showroom floor and can still handle daily driving, go with the Evo. If you want something that you can make even faster but be no good as a daily driver then turbo your max. Dont do a SC, I hate SC'ers turbos are way more fun and can make more power.

I wouldn't supercharge the max because it will only cost you more money down the line, if your not happy with your Max and you have the money to supercharge I would turbocharge, free up the exhaust system, and then upgrade the ECU.

This is a Maxima forum, go Maxima. They are more aesthetically appealing IMO, even if they not as fast as the EVO. Max forever!

I would supercharge the max. Then again, my car is 10 years old and worth 3.5-4k so it's a much bigger gap between that and the evo. All I know is that you can get 300whp out of a max pretty easily, and if you go turbo, even easier. It won't be as reliable but Evo's aren't known to be bulletproof, either.

Ever consider a 3.5 swap? Much cheaper and more reliable.

why are you asking people here to help you make up your mind? they only way you will be happy is if you make your OWN decision. you don't know us, we don't know you, how can you ask semi-random people for help? YOU have the freedom of choice, and hopefully the intelligence to satisfy your own wishes, why would you need help picking a car. do you ask your co-workers every time where to go eat lunch? if you think about it, no matter what people here suggest, you are going to do what your heart/mind tells you, not what we say. if everybody here said, don't get either, get a ford taurus, would you listen? probably not, so please make up your own mind, and be happy.
peace.

I tend to agree with Lontar1. While the Evo is truly a bad@$$ car, little is done outside of the motor and cosmetics to distinguish it from any other Lancer in most driving conditions. (nearsighted? maybe.) Dont get me wrong, it would smoke many cars double the price. (Then again most cars double the price are double the car that the Evo is.)

And while the Evo is AWD, it is inherrently FWD (unlike the STI's RWD biased 35f/65r torque split) and will understeer similarly (although it should handle off the line power much better than any Maxima). If performance modding is an intention, another alternative (IMHO) is trading up to an STi Legacy and then setting off on the mods....once it comes stateside.

After driving the WRX, I can say that I'm at a stage in my life where driving a subcompact sedan is now out of the question. My next move is definitely something in the arena of the M45/GS430/545i. There's just too many instances where I'm stuck in traffic and would prefer to be surrounded by room and nice amenities rather than a typical spartan subcompact interior.

I will probably go FI at some point in the next year or two and then pass my 02 Maxima onto my son (now 15 y/o)....at which point I'll make that next move.

Most Evo's are in the shop for tranny problems... because most of them are beaten to CRAP. you cannot fault a tranny that fails because it is driven hard and is taking way more HP than it was designed for after it gets a few mods....

Most people trash the tranny in 25,000 miles and upgrade.

its not as hash as my max with D2's

They ride pretty nice. no where near to harsh yet they are stiff enough to hold the road well.

Its about on par with my 03 Saab 9-3 Vector as far as ride quality.

PS: if it was up to me, that F-ing Saab would be gone... Saabs are POS since GM took over. Its a $38,000 mistake, I wanted to get a G35 which was cheaper than the Saab and whooped its ****.... but the car is for my soon to be wife and she wanted the Saab

Saabs were POS before GM took over and I dont think they're any worse since. That said, Caddy and Buick's track record seem to indicate that GM can produce a quality product when they so choose.

Keep the Max if possible, to have an everyday driver. Don't get a new MR, buy a used Lancer EVO 6 ( if you're lucky you might stumble apon a rally edition) or get the Subaru WRX Sti version( I say this because the Evo rally will probably be pricey).

Ummmmm.... Have you ever owned an older SAAB???

I used to have a 91' 9000CD and it was one of the best cars Ive ever driven. They are expensive a hell when something goes wrong, but that is a VERY rare thing. They were built so stoutly and designed so well for there time. I used to have that thing cruising at 135mph and it was just locked on to the road which is more than I can say for most cars even these days.

My mom currently drives an 01' 9-5, and that thing isnt half the car that the 91' was. Go to any SAAB forum (www.saabcentral.com is a great one) and I guarantee that everyone who has owned a pre GM SAAB will tell you they were better cars.

Anyway, sorry to turn this into a SAAB thread, just trying to filter out the BS.

As far as Max vs. EVO... I think the EVO would be fun to drive for a couple of months... But I would never trade my I30 in on some sooped-up, cramped, econo-box. Personally I think they are kind of ugly both inside and out, but thats just MY oppinion.

I work in banking and finance.....therefore I've met MANY Saab owners over the years (since 1990) and have heard a fare share of gripes. Word of mouth is a 'female dog'.
