How do you guys keep the police out of your trunk?

I have terrible luck with the police and because a prior incident with them (assault on one), they always want to search my car and give me $h*t. I always tell them no to a search but they always do it anyway and say "we'll we heard you say it was ok." They also always go into my trunk even though it's a locked compartment. Some times they just open it and sometimes they access it from the back seat armrest and start pulling things out.

I am going to put a switch on the trunk popper so it can not be opened through the keyless entry or the button on the door and I don't have the key for it either.

I was wondering if anyone has put a lock on the part that opens to the truck from the back seat? At least that way they would have to bust something to get in and then they would have another lawsuit from me.

there should be a switch on the truck lid to disable any remote opening of the trunk besides the key.....file a law suit against them....and stop getting assult charges with police officers

yea, in the stickies there is a pic of the trunk lock workings, and I believe that the small metal tab/switch should be pushed downward to lock it. whatever you have it at right now, down or up, just do the opposite and it should lock. but for the armrest passage, check out home depot or something and see if they sell some sort of small locking mechanism like a deadbolt for a house door. then mount it and such.

ya.. .file annother lawsuit.

its bs that they get away with what they are doing, drive to the police station talk to the head of the station and tell them if it happens again that your going to court... also get a good lawyer, and when they pull you over, call him right away!

if you say no that means NO and if you have a lawyer, obviously you mean no and he knows it, so if they then say "ohh it was alright you said" then they all know its BULLSH and you can give them annother lawsuit.

Yea, def. use some kind of recording device the next time, and make sure that you always ask the reason for the search. They can't just open up your ****, I would be suing the ***** of this department who keep searching you illegally.

Well I cant use the switch in the back because then I would never be able to open my trunk being that I don't have the trunk key. I hit that switch once and had to have my friends little brother climb through the back to get it open.

As far as the recorder I would do that but when I get out and they search me they would just take it and put it on the hood and not be around it when they talk.

I just ran to home depot and they have a little window lock. I would mount it on the inside of the trunk part so they can't access the truck from the back seat. Does it have to have a key in order to be a locked compartment? Also is under the hood consider a lock compartment?

It keeps happening at different departments. The cops are nice and polite until they come back from running my name and then there like "have you stayed out of trouble since you got arrested?" I tell them "yea" Then they say "you assulted a police officer?" And I tell them "yea I protected myself with my baton from a drunk off duty cop that was chasing me in his kia and got out and grabbed me." Then they tell me to get out of the car and by then there are at least 3-4 cops there and the $h*t begins. The thing is all the charges were dropped but it still says I have been arrested and what for.

Last time I was pulled over, I was there for 1 hour and 35 minutes giving me $h*t for having clear strobes in my trunk, and non hooked-up PA, radar gun, and scanner. I even had detectives come the next day and take me in for questioning.

I guess I am going to hook up the recorder on my chest or something. Somewhere they can't find it. Then get that lock on the trunk and go out driving around without my setbelt on and wait to get pulled over. That way the most they can treaten me with is a $10 ticket.

Be careful what you wish for: a) don't have a drop of alcohol, and b) if they can't access your trunk, they might just break into it and screw your car up.

It's never smart to antagonize or bad mouth cops.

Your best option is to have a hidden tape recorder and witnesses.

how often do you get pulled over that you need to rig you trunk? Its understandable that you dont want to show them whats inside but if I was a police officer and knew your record and you said no dont go in the trunk, thats the first place I'm going.

The last couple of weeks I have been pulled over for:
- one license plate out
- one tail light out
- making a left turn at a time it wasn't aloud
- not yielding( then it tured into speeding as well when I told him I didn't cut him off. He said he didn't have his radar on so he didn't get a speed even though my radar detector was going crazy and I was not speeding at all. I had a car full of kids that day, so he was looking for a reason to stop me)
-looking suspicious (because I was on a side street talking on my phone)

I was clear to make the turn so I did it and it didn't effect traffic at all. Turned out it was 4 mins after 4PM (when turning there starts to be illegal)

Got a ticket for it and I accepted it as I was in the wrong, but I didn't get my car searched that time. I ask the female officer if she had run my license(because no other cops had showed up) and she said "no you don't look like you have warents"

sounds like some major to me. The cops shouldnt be allowed. Start bringing a friend along so they can witness this. Cops can get away with anything these day. Im not saying cops are bad or arnt doing there job bc i know they go through crap all the time and get dont et paid all that either. But sometimes they abuse there power too. I was verbally assulted from a police officer and the judge said, the officer felt threathened and some other bs. Just be sure to be safe at all time, have nothing in ur car you could get busted for and dont get smart. Goodluck dude.

if they want to search your trunk they are going to do it whether you have it locked or not, however this is illegal, so you should do something like file a lawsuit or complaint with the police cheif...another good idea is keep illegal stuff out of your car

Sure file a lawsuit. How do you think that will end up?

I used to speed like crazy but since this deal with the off duty cop, who was trying to stop me because I got into it with his friend, who was in another car, I have slowed down. That F'ed up my whole senior year. I was charged with unlawful use of a weapon (felony), assault 2nd degree (felony), reckless driving, and peace disturbance. The felony charges were dropped after I testified before the grand jury. I still have the other 2 misdemeanors though. I am getting ready to sue them for all the BS they put me through during that year, like being locked up twice for the same thing after I had bailed out and all the missing school and court appearances I had to make. The prosecutor actually said that if I sign a waiver that says I won't sue because of this they would drop the other two small charges.

You have the right to record them on camera or voice. You just have to make them aware that the conversation is recorded. Also they do not have the right to search your property without a warrant. most police cars have cameras and mics that record the incident as it unfolds be sure to state you do not what your car searched in front of this since it is evidence that can be submitted in court.
Also try not to **** them off so they would leave you alone

Sure, they would love that! You can be sure that the police camera just happens to be "turned off" during these incidents.

You guys seem to be unable to distinquish written law and what can be proven in court.

crazy story. If there offering a weaver that will drop the rest of the charges and clear your record completly that sounds like a better path to take then try to sue and fail, and have those charges follow you around everywhere you go aftering you chaces of getting various jobs or maybe into certain schools. Unless you've spoken to a lawyer who said definately you will win and get all charges clear then you may want to consider signing some papers.

And like you really were upset you missed some days of classes of course you didnt want to spend it in jail but still.

M ignition key works for the glove box but not the trunk. I thought all maximas were like that??

I should have hit that cop in the head with the baton instead of the side after he came running at me and grabbed me without showing any badge or saying he was a cop. He wouldn't have been able to pull out his gun and put it to my head and say he was going to "blow my f"ing brains out."

I used to want to be a cop when I was a kid

If you have a record, they will search the car. If you do not give them permission to search, they can get a k-9 to make up "probable cause". They can say the dog noticed something. Your word against theirs. You can't win. Just deal with it. It will all blow over as you get older. At some point, they will forget about you, or enough time has passed that your info won't turn up as easily on their computers. Same thing happened to me when I was 18 with a record. It was the norm, getting pulled over 2-3 times a week. This is the price you pay for having a felony charge. It gets better as you get older though. Don't stress. As long as you do the right thing from here on, things will be fine, and you won't have to constantly check your rear view for cops.

Work hard, pay your taxes, and live a clean life.

Ok then buy a cheap tape recorder and keep it in your car. Just be clear that you are recording the conversation. i always keep my digital camera in the car for incidents like this. I can record picture and sound and it comes in handy if your ever in an accident.

All i am saying is your a marked man you probally messed with a off duty cop and now they have it in for you. Your best bet is to move.

I would sign the waiver but it would just drop the reckless driving and the peace disturbance. I would still have an arrest record, not conviction thank god, but that would still be with me.

That is why I want to sue and it is going to cost me even more money to get the arrest off my record. As to date it has cost me over $4000. They set a bail for me of $16000, so I had to pay 10% of that to the bail bondsman plus the lawyer.

If you want, next time you get pulled over, dont stop!!

Drive the most direct route to the police station, mean while call 911, or local PD, and tell them you dont feel safe stopping, and want a sargent to meet you at the PD, to ensure your safty...

You can do this legaly.

I would say it is perfect for someone who has been asulted by a cop....

Just a thought.....

(Had to do it once, to prove a cop was harassing me (pulling me over for no reasion))

You could do that, and have them run you off the road, wrecking your car. That's legal too. And when they catch you, expect to have your arm locked behind your back as they proceed to smash your head off your trunk. Cops hate runners most of all.

They don't condone ex-cons not that maxima lover is one. But once a person has a bad record with the police, they'll always suspect you no matter what. Legal shield or not, it won't stop the cops from accessing his trunk. Legal shield is there to give you access to your lawyer 24/7. I have had all 3 of PPL's protection for myself and my business for almost 2 years now: 1) Legal protection, 2) Legal Shield, and 3) Identity Theft protection. There are many limits to these products but overall, for the money, it is worth it. Just don't expect the lawyers to perform any magic tricks for you and get you out of anything you get yourself into. You still have to be in subjection to the laws of the land.

It is legal to drive to police station and their is nothing they can do, all you have to say is you were scared, and wanted another cop their before you stop, they have to wait for you to run to put your car in a ditch. I am serious, if you drive the speed limit, and in the direction of the police station, there is nothing they can do...

Although i would sugest calling the police station first, and inform them you are scared, it is legal.

It is your right...

Smart ***, No **** they hate runners, your not running, you are going to safty...

Dave

Call your police station and ask them, tell them your are concerned, and would like that option...

Accually this last time I got pulled over there was a sargent there, along with 4 other police officers and he was the one who said "we all heard you say that it was ok to search your vehicle."

I don't think it would be a good idea not to pull over right away. They have those push bumpers on there car and there always looking for a chance to ram something leagly and that would give them the chance. I just don't want them using the "pit move" on me while I'm doing 60 on the highway.

call your police station, and talk to a sargent, they are their to help, see what he says your rights are, and next time you get pulled over ask for him by name before they do anything...
