On eBay for $800 + shipping, or a local junkyard for maybe $500 or less - one member of the org recently got a VQ30DE (I believe) with 7000 miles for only $515 or thereabouts.

just depends where you look. On Ebay a seller had a lot of vq30des' and they were each selling for about $200, pretty low milage. Just look around I'd say average arounf $500.

www.car-part.com, to help get it started.

What happened to your current engine?

If you gotte pull the motor, you might as well drop a 3.5 in there

Depends on how well it was maintained. Getting a compression check is one of the best way to tell the health of an engine. If a compression test come back good, treat her right and she'll last much longer. a good few on here are in the 225K area still going strong, original motor and tranny.

If i did buy this car you guys think i could put a complete engine in for under 1000? if i needed to i could reuse the old parts off the other engine like starter, alternator, power steering pump, ac compressor, or ecu? most engines you buy wont come with this unless you go and buy from a junkyard and get those parts as well correct?

I have 230k and plan on adding much much more ... the engine is probably the least of your worries on that car.

That's not a lot of miles for a Maxima.

depending on where you purchase from and whos doing the work putting the engine in. I would say yes it could be done for that price hopefulyl with change to spare, most wont come with alternator starter, etc, but you can pull that off your old motor.

Get a compression check, if all looks well, that milage is nothing to worry about.

your going to want to ask around at alot of shops around the house or surounding cities, for quotes on engin swaps, see how much it will cost, its not a really easy job, especially if you dont have anyone that knows the maxima, so try and find someone familior (sp?) with nissans in general!!!!!!!! thats the best advice i can say!

cause some places will charge say 3k and some mabe dirt cheap, and some will do much better job if they know what they are doing on your spacific car.

its more of a job for yourself if your experianced, but ya i recomend a newer maxima engine in your older car. that would benifit most of all.

Is it an auto or 5 spd? If it's an auto I would look for something thats 5 speed and about 130k on it, would make a perfect first car. I have had 5 cars/trux/vans before my maxima all were automatic. and all 5 of them had or developed tranny problems because of my driving style and where I live. I will never go back to automatic again.

It's going to cost you anywhere from 1000-7500. Depends on who and where.

Had you followed my link before, www.car-part.com

You would have found numerous DE, DEK, and 3.5L for anywhere between $300-$2800

And like we are all telling you, and yes we are being serious, do a compression test, and take it from there ....

i got a engine from www.car-part.com and i paid 350 for it with 40k miles. The pulleys were bent and the coil packs were shot and the iacv was shot. Not that it was a big deal or anything since you pay only for the ENGINE they only leave the stuff on their cuz its easier for them. In anycase engine runs great no oil leaks. Such a strong motor. Greatest purchase i made. The reason i switched to a new motor is because the timing cover leak i said **** it its not worth 1500$ to get it fixed so i just bought a new engine and it came out to be the same price .

With a little work .. check the all motor forums, a member recently did that .. DEK in a 4th gen.

A 95-2005 Engine will fit with some small to major modifications. 95-99 fitting almost direct bolt on, 00-01 with a little caress, and 02+ with some pretty involved detail .. check and browse through the all motor forums.

See if you can find a decent engine in your area, that way you can drive out and check it out, then widen your area of search a bit more and more till you find what you want withouth having to drive accross the country.
