battery and brake lights on?

well today these two lights came on up on the instrument panel. I went to autozone to get it checked out and my battery went dead on the spot. so i bought a new battery and put it in but the same lights are on and i dont want the new battery dying also. I went ahead and drove home so i could try and figure out what the real problem was. anybody have any ideas as to what this could be, possibly the alternator? I also dont understand why the brake light is on either

sorry just read in the stickies its about the alternator fuse. if i replace just the fuse and the lights dont come on again is the alternator ok, or is this a telltale sign of a dead alternator. thanks in advance.

If your old battery went dead too, it's definetely your alternator. You old battery might have been fine and all it needed was to be recharged. Brake and battery light on together is definetely the alternator, it's notorious on 4g Maximas
