Stupid question, but I need to know

Is it possible to take out the starter, and have someone hold it while trying to crank it?

Basically....giving it power in free air. Will there be any electric jolt to a person if someone cranks it while Im holding it?

Why do I want to know this? I want to see if there's an incorrect positioning alignment of possibly my clutch/FW or TO bearing/slave cylinder.

For those who know about my starting problem Ive had....Ive replaced the starter once, and the battery ground......that seemed to HELP it a lot, it doesnt backfire as much anymore...but something else is still wrong.

If the starter is grounded properly, you shouldn't get any electrical jolts. I wouldn't suggest you hold it in your hands though when it's cranking.

DC is direct current and AC is alternating current. DC just gives you a jolt as would licking a battery. Both AC and DC are "hot", and they both need a "ground", as in a complete circuit from the source through some load (in this case a body) and back to the source.

AC is more deadly because the back and forth swings of the current interrupt the neronal circuit of the heart and induce fibrillation. DC just flows through, creating some heat on the way, but it doesn't really affect the neurons except when it is first applied.

If I remember correctly, the most "effective" frequency to disrupt the working of the heart is about 58 Hz. Amazingly close to the 60 Hz that we use here in the USA. But hey, what do I know, most of the motors and generators I worked on where for Guided Missle Launching systems in the 440Volt range...

PS, AC or DC volts are both dangerous, 1/4 of an Amp or more will Kill you...

I did it in auto class once, best thing to do is put the starter on a vise, and hook up a battery with jumper cables to it.
