Just wanted to get some of your opinions. Im looking into buying a used block and heads out of a junkyard, and going to rebuild them. Should I use stock Nissan parts or should i use an aftermarket performance kit? Hey and if you guys have any suggestions throw them in.

 

It would be 5x cheaper to just buy a low miler used engine and swap.

 

You can use aftermarket and everything will be ok.

Just make sure you know what you're doing.

 

Just off the phone with a local junkyard i do business with at my job. They are willing to sell me a whole motor off a 1996 Maxima. Is this ok to use on a 95. I didnt know if some things changed...?

 

yes things did change. You go from an OBD-I computer in 95 to OBD-II.

Maybe the guys with a 95 might be of more help. I know OBD-II came out for 96 vehicles. Maybe the 95 Maxima had OBD-II already.

 

All 4-gens are obdII Law mandated that all makers had to use obdII in 96. But Nissan complied with the law back in 95 so they wouldn't have to redo all the electronics one year after introducing a brand new maxima and engine

I hate it when I go to Autozone to check my codes and tell them my car's a 95, and they say "nope, sorry can't do it, your car is a 95"

 

the intake is a little different in the 96. it has to do with the fact that they had obd-II. had to do with emissions. i have 95 se, friend has 96 se, completely different intake system.

 

You can probably use the long block from the used engine and keep all your original intake/sensor/etc stuff.

I wish i could put a 3.5 . Sounds like alot of work, and things ive never even heard have to get done. Like i beleive you have drill holes for the cams or something. I dont know i would like to though. If you know anyone thats willing to help i dont mind getting the engine...

Check out the all motor forum, there are some people that did the 3.5 swap.

 

Ive called around for the 3.5 motor so far the best price i can get is $2700.00 and for the transmission the cheapest i found it for was $1500.00. Thats alot of money.

 

go on car-part and do a nation-wide search ... get a 3.5 for like 900-1200 and have them ship it for whatever. Still cheaper then the locals.
