Easiest way to paint spark plug cover

well after messing up on the promer job i bought the strongest paint remover home depot had and sprayed it from a spray bottle and not only did i strip all the primer off but i also got all the paint off of the cover including the black stripe and all the paint in between the letters so now it is clean sanded and ready to be primed the right way.. so for all those beggining this project and want to know how to get all the paint off of the stock cover there you have it use paint stripper (not thinner) it got everything off, it looks all solid i love it

What's the sense in even using primer? All I did was clean mine and spray a couple coats of paint and a couple coats of clear on. No sanding, no primer, nothing.

Yah just clean it up with some degreaser and you will be good. No need to even mess around with the primer

Just the letters? I used vasoline. Just took some Q-tips and spread it on the face of the letters. Since I decided to go with silver lettering/black cover, that let the letters stay the same and everything, including where the little stripe of black is stock, be black. Paint will still get on the letters, but because of the vasoline you can scrape it off after it dries.

well the problem is after the paint stripper the whole cover looks like it does onthe underside so i guess i am going to have to tape off the letters with clear tape and spray everything black then i will give it a day or so and tape off everything but the letters and spray the letters high temp aluminum which looks like chrome almost. as for the line that was stock black i guess that will have to be painted a special color of my choosing hmmm maybe i will spray it with the mettalic effects black gunmetal sparkle Duplicolor paint i just dont know how it will hold up in the heat its not high heat???

It would be much easier for you to spray the letters first without masking, let dry, mask of the letters, and then paint the cover color of your choice.

I didnt bother with letters. I grinded off the nissan letters and bondo'd the whole indentation and sanded it all smooth. Then I painted it with some crackle finish paint called "hammered finish" this paint is hard and tough and is pretty heat resistant. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...0_150_full.jpg

I like yours that way, Nismo. I think it matches your MEVI cover better than a normal spark plug cover would.
