crazy @ss fuel gauge

so lately i've been noticing that my fuel gauge is acting up. when i fill my tank the needle doesn't go quite to full. its just shy, about 3-4 needle widths. then around 60 mi on the new tank it decides to get back to full. so do i have a lazy bum needle or is the gauge just like that. i know its not the most accurate gauge in the world either.

pull out your fuel tank sending unit, and get the resistance readings at bottom, middle, top. and compare to OEM specs.

not as bad as mine. i went to nissan to get my tach/speedo fixed. they got stuck all the time. well they said they got a new cluster which is bs cus it still doesnt work and i guess its on backorder now, but the point is that now when i fill my tank up the needle goes about a third above the full line. the tip of the needle is actually outside the white gauge face and into the black. i dont know if when empty it goes to the E line, cus i was to afraid to test before but now am. but its taking forever cus i do 95% highway and im getting amazing gas mileage. it says im at 1/4 tank with 35o miles on the tank already.

Sometimes, I have seen my fuel guage go way below the "E" mark when I know just a few minutes prior, I had 1/4 tank.

On a few other occasions, I have seen the guage point straight down.
