What is "1.0 DIN ISO/DIN moutable" in cd player specs?

Hey guys

I am looking for getting cd player for my 96 maxima because the original cassette player is dead. When i look at cd players online they say something like "1.0 DIN, ISO/DIN mountable" or dual DIN etc. I have no clue and i don't want to purchase something that doesn't fit. Can anyone please tell me

1-What does this DIN thing mean?
2-How do i know if it will fit in the dash of my car? what spec should i look for?
3-Do i need to get any extra kits?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

you have a double din unit now, a single din will take up half the space as the double, a single should fit, you will just need something to take up the extra space below your new single din, try the audio section.

If you get a single din, you will have to get a dash pocket to go under the radio you purchase.
Thats a double DIN radio.
Thats a single DIN with a pocket underneath it to fill the space. If you have any questions you can PM me, Ill be glad to help you out.
