Side of rear bumper is loose.

I have an 04 SE Max. Anyone ever checked out the drivers side of the rear bumper to see if it seems like it is not bolted all the way down (loose)? Mine is lose and when I drive around 70mph the wind makes it shake. I can take my hand and push it in with very little force. It stays in place for the most part but it is very loose and may cause problems down the road. Just wondering if anyone else experienced this. I had an 03 Altima V6 and it had slightly the same problem in the exact same spot. Just wondering if the TN plant had the worker that attached the rear bumper on the drivers side that was drunk or forgot to put a few bolts on the Altimas and Maximas. I am going to jack it up and check it out soon and see if I see something that can be bolted back up due to my car being out of manufactors warranty.

I just went out and pulled and pushed on both sides of the rear bumper of my '04 SL (I sometimes tend to forget just how big these bumpers really are!), and found no looseness whatsoever. Wherever I pushed the bumper, the whole car followed; no slack whatsoever.

I would feel there may be something needing tightening with your left rear bumper. This is the type situation I feel a good dealer would fix at no charge, warranty or not. This is something that should never be expected to happen.

Hey listen --- just as an FYI --- don't be pushing your bumper in and out like that ---- your flexing the material which stretches the paint and you'll wake up one morning with spider web cracks all over the place.... take it to the dealer

there are little clips, plastic push things that secure it...go to 1stnissanparts.com and tell them what you need or look it up by part # from the manual that someone has on this forum. they cost about 50 cents i think..i replaced 2 from the front air dam thing that was loose from hitting parking blocks.

How many miles do you have on it? If it is under 36k miles take it back to the dealer. That should be covered under the bumper to bumper warranty no pun intended. I agree with lightonthehill. The dealer should fix that with no problem. You shouldnot be fixing a bumper on a car that hasn't had an accident.

gec is absolutely right.

I should have mentioned that I push using both hands spread out giving ten fingers and two palms on which to distribute the force. Even then, I try to push at edges where the metal bends, and hence is less likely to give, which, as gec said, is not good for the paint.

Yea.. maybe. Fact of the matter remains that the bumper is lose and driving at highway speeds it is vibrating (visually) and luckly i can't feel it but I see it in the side rearview mirror if I point it down the the side of the rear bumber. I will jack it up this week and see if I see anything that needs to be tightend up or like you all said a clip missing... i felt down there and the one clip was in place on the corner of the bumber next to the wheel. This is not the 1st time Nissan has has something lose like this. Too bad I am out of factory warranty.
