PR CAI with MonsterFlow Air Filter Rubbing Issue

I have a PR CAI with the MonsterFlow Air Filter at the end sitting near the wheel well on the driver's side. I had no problems cutting the hole originally with the template provided in the install kit and everything lined up fine during installation two years ago. Sporatically over a period of time I've noticed a weird sound coming from the front of the car and wondered what it was. I have no idea why I didn't notice this before, but it's actually the front drivers side wheel rubbing against the plastic housing that the filter sits behind because the filter causes it to bulge out a bit more than it should. Keep in mind this happened for two years before I replaced the filter last week and when I went to take off the old one it was on just as snug as when I had originally put it on so that's not an issue...just the noise and the fact that it's doing this...Does anybody else with the intake have this same problem and any ideas on how to fix it bc I really don't want to have to cut another hole or anything....Thanks.

I had the same problem with mine and I just ended up using a K&N filter which was little smaller in diameter..... It didn't take me 2 years to notice it though...

One reason I got rid of it. Junk. Can't believe I bought it for $260. You don't always get what you pay for

What I did was gloue some passing in and around the hole to stop the grinding against the body of the car. It looked like $hit, but it worked. I would go to home depot and try to find a rubber mat or something that will cushion the blow. That should take away most of the sound. PR included a cheap peace of cut up tubing to put around th hole to serve the same purpose, but unless the hole is cut directly to spec it wont work. If you didn't receive it I guess just go buy some small rubber hose that has about a half inch diameter and cut it down the middle, and then just wedge it in there so the edges of the hole will be covered by the tubing. Does this make sense?

who said anything about coils? if you do it right, everything provided fits... maybe some rubbing with the battery or fusebox...but it's kind of hard to get the hole NOT to spec if you're using the right hole saw.. this kid, you're a year older than me so that makes me a kid compared to you right? you're so mature

Love my PR intake! The way to stop the problems with the sharp edges on the hole is to use the OEM rubber coupler from the TB to the intake pipe. It allows for some flex and it is all it needs. Mosterflow did fit like crap, but it is crap to begin with... (Flame suit on)

You sound much older than that. HE must be thinking of somebody else. There are always fitment issues with non OEM parts.

You sound much older than that. HE must be thinking of somebody else. There are always fitment issues with non OEM parts. The exact position of the hole has to be right in order for it to fit "perfectly"

Considering that the MonsterFlow Filter is relatively wide and large I'm considering changing the filter to a skinnier one. I assume as long as the filter is 3" so it can connect to the piping then it will be okay. This K&N is a different part number than has been given to me in the past bc the usual one people give is wider and less long like this...

and looks like the monsterflow air filter...

but this one is also 3" but is more narrow and long so it may not make the plastic guard in front of the drivers side wheel bulge out and cause the tire to rub when my wheel is turned all the way which is my problem. Do you think one like this would be fine?
