are aluminum dash kits ricey?
is this dash kit ricey?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissa...spagenameZWDVW
its 30 pieces, does that make it more ricey? what about carbon fiber instead? how do these kind of kits look installed over the trim that came with it?

i think you need a certain color interior to pull off those colors...if you got tan= go with the wood interior, if you got black then proceed with the aluminum, and in a rare uneard of case...of italian red and black then you should go with the CF.

well since you're asking for opinions, i'll add mine: aluminum and carbon fiber dash kits are
! maybe 5 years ago CF was cool, but now its just too d*mn played out and i have yet to see an aluminum kit that didn't look really cheap.
then again, it depends what your goals are. if you're planning to enter a bunch of
car shows, they probably require some kinda kit just to get in the door.
i think that a high quality wood kit could look nice, but you have to be careful not to over do it. try to mimic what the GLEs came with from the factory or dealer.
just my opinion.

That's not real brushed aluminum. That's just vinyl overlay. Those kits are rice. A friend has them on her Corolla I think it looks cheap. However it is justified, as the REAL brushed aluminum dash kits are several hundred dollars (Joshua Tree).
Personally I don't like the fact that even with the JT kit it doesn't look stock as the edges of the dash pieces still show the factory pieces. Overall I think it looks better painted.

It's your damn car. Do what you want. Half these people on the Org tremble in fear of the word "rice". God forbid someone calls you that *gasp* For every cosmetic mod, there will be at least a half dozen people on here that will label it "rice". I can tell you're just as worried about that label as well, since you're asking for approval. Just to see what happens, I'm going to tin foil my whole interior.
these others are right about one thing, it isn't real brushed aluminum. but who gives a crap? im not gonna shell out 300 bucks or whatever for real aluminum thats just gonna dent someday. Its nearly impossible to tell unless you touch it, i know from experience.. and i don't think its ricey. it looks good on black interior, IMO:

do what you want, its your car.

youre right, it is my car, and ultimately its up to me. but i dont want my car looking cheap. ive got a gle, with the wood trim and black leather interior, and it looks pretty good. i like it alot more now than when i got the car.
in addition to asking if it was ricey, i wanted to know what the quality of the kit was and how it looked. if it looks cheap, aside from being aluminum (ie, doesnt complete cover the stock trim) then i certainly dont want it. theres better things i could spend that $100 on.

:+1: yeah. people are really scared of rice. people try to be so against it. yeah, it can look bad and be tacky, but some things are just different and maybe not what you would do to your car. but sook, what's the point of asking for some people's opinion. you're too worried about what others think about you. just do whatever. obviously you want a dash kit, so just do what you want or what's in your price range.
besides, $100 is not that big of an investment, so just try it and if it doesn't work, toss it, or try to sell just the kit without the adhesive for a few bucks.
(does anyone know if these can be removed after they are fully applied? I'm sure it will take a little bit of work, but can it be done to look like stock again? no permanent damage?)

It's rice only if there is a picture of Uncle Bens on the box.

i agree. if i could go back and do it again, i just paint it, by a pro tho, with a pro gun. you can do all the prep work yourself. his^^ looks really nice too, what did you use? rattle can paint? not bad. its all you, if you like, do it. someone will always say different no matter what. my car has been called rice before, but i said 'eat a dic bish' and went my way. later
It can be ricey depending on the quality of it and the color of your interior. But, there are far worse things that you can do like put on a civic fart can muffler, FARTEZZAS, Skyline body kit, huge *** wing, and neon lights.
If you decide to paint it, prep it yourself and have a professional do the painting.

An automobile that has been equipped with gawdy, unnesecary accessories, such as 3' high spoilers, loud and/or repulsive paint job and body work. Owners of such automobiles feel that these accessories make their car the best in the world, when in fact it is not.

Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements. (R.I.C.E.)Parts put on cars to make them look fast, when they have no internal tuning, and are actually slow as hell. Parts usually consist of excessivley angular bodykits, large rear spoilers, neon, sponsor stickers, chrome rims, fake "coffee can" exhaust tips, and loud, annoying paint jobs and/or vynils. Sometimes parts are do-it-yourself installed and are basically duct taped to the car. Most commonly known for being done to Honda Civics, but can also be done to slow domestic vehicles, such as a Chevy Cavalier, etc."Yo dog, did you see the Civic that guy was rollin' in? it was so rice."
"This guy's got nothin' under the hood, it's just rice. Smoke him."
"What a riceboy, I bet he thinks his neon adds 50 bhp!"

A car, usually a late model of japanese origin, that has had numerous features added to it that may enhance its looks, but do nothing for its performance.
Examples include "VTEC" and "Mugen" stickers, large spoilers, chrome wheels ( see also bling bling ), large diameter exhaust pipes,
clear brake light lenses and lowered springs.
4.
any modification that is supposed to make a car look fast, when in fact it does nothing for speed, and may in fact hurt performance, or any vehicle that has been subjected to this treatment. note that any make of vehicle may be "riced". gaudy, pointless, absurd body modifications and paint schemes, annoying bees hive exhaust tips. [edited out] are the best at "ricing" a vehicle, along with spoiled rich high-school teenagers.after watching super2nr tv, lets go check out the rice section of pep-boys.

To paint anything on my car, I use either brake or engine enamel. It's durable and will stand up to repeated touches and heat changes. Don't even try painting anything with it still on the car. Whatever piece you want to paint, remove it and then paint it, as far away from your car as possible. The particles from the paint travel with the wind.
