4th Gen (95-99) Carbon EFX Carbon Fiber Hood - Interest check

(please note this was posted here because I can not post in the group deals forum - If I need to move it please let me know)

This is an interest check for Carbon EFX carbon fiber hoods. I've recently been in contact with Carbon EFX about their hoods and I must say they are definately one of the better looking options around. Currently they are an Ebay seller and make hoods for almost any type of car. Their hoods sell for 318 dollars + shipping (posted 165 on ebay) IF I can get 10 people interested in purchasing we can get money off of the hood and money off of shipping.

So, with 10 buyers we can get the hood for 288+ Shipping @ 120 dollars. I believe her current shipper gives her some ridiculous rates, but 120 isn't bad at all. In all we're looking at $408US Shipped to your door. As i've said these are great hoods and the price is good too considering normal options run you 350+ 100 dollars for shipping. The seller also has an assortment of color options that can be purchased for an additional fee (which I do not have at this time)

Few Facts and add-ons.
-----------------------

The hood is made with Grade A carbon fiber
Pre-drilled holes for washer nozzles.
Works with OEM hood struts.
ROLLED Edges (unlike most)
As an added bonuse the hoods will ship with Carbon Fiber Eye-Lids as a special "gift" for making the purchase.

Now for the pictures...
---------------------

I will be posting pictures of the Skeleton shortly. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me and I will get answers for you as quickly as I can.

Do you have actual picture samples of the colors?

Also, are they going to make eyelids for cefiros as well?

Yes, weight is important. I'm interested too. I'll get my car repainted next spring so might as well get this first and save some pounds.

Cf hood

I bought my CF hood from these guys just a few months ago...I drove up in my truck and picked it up.

He said he doesn't do rolled edges for the Maxima hood. And the squirter nozzles are not pre drilled. Instead, there is a minute dimple of where it goes. Maybe he's changed his ways in the past few months.

And it's not as light as others out there. I forget the exact numbers, I wrote it down, but unfortunately, that info is at home.

Fit and finish is pretty damn good though. I had to do a lot of adjusting though to get it to sit low enough and look good. And you can forget about using the stock hood shocks... I tried, the hood flexes waaaaay too much right in the middle (horizontally) and will crack when trying to close the hood.

I'm in desperate need of a CF hood! I got hit and run a couple weeks ago and need to replace/upgrade the front now. Get some more pics of the skeleton and edges and I will be happy to throw in for this! Hood looks good so far!

Its a full skeleton. Meaning its not a skeleton glued to a piece of fiberglass like I have seen on some hoods.

Hmm...some of those pictures are of my car... I was never aware they're used to advertise for CarbonEFX.

They do offer rolled edges but the cost for having them probably isn't worth it.

If you're local in SoCal, I can get you guys these hoods for much cheaper picked up. And everyone else that wants one, I can probably get the same price or better without the GD.

Slimer, those eyelids are for cefiros. Dubbya, you may have noticed they don't fit perfectly on the stock headlights.

Could have sold the eyelids for more. You paid more for them through the markup on the hood and shipping charges, but it's probably the quickest way to sell them if they just take up space.

I've been selling them to Cefiro guys at $65 shipped.

Ok I've emailed the seller in attempt to get clarification on questions that were asked and also to get more images of the edges and weave etc. Up until now she has been very quick with responding to my e-mails so this shouldn't take very long. Some of the initial "facts" as they were, were based off hoods they make for other cars my bad thinking it may be the same - I was told though that they work with OEM hood struts no problem, but have requested further clarification on this as well.

John, yes I got mine and it was a piece of ****..clear coat was chipping on the front edge and it looked like my old gen2's so I sold it to one of my brothers friends for 300 bucks. Hence the reason I'm trying to work this deal out. Otherwise I'm just going to purchase one for myself.

Edit: Almost forgot, Skeleton pictures. *Note these are not the maxima hood, but the skeleton is made the same way, these are skeleton sample picture she sent me from their hoods and assures me they are the same for all hoods they make, maybe someone who has one can back that up*
Sorry about the image size one these first one, I will have to resize it.

INterested in this hood but need a little more information about it...

-what type of latch is installed on the hood?
-do they have any warranty on the clear coat?
-what is the deal with the eyelids, are they only for cefiero headlights?
-would really like to get some feedback from the people who already have one in their posession too!

i doubt this deal will go through sooner than a few weeks from now and by then i'll have the money... i really need a new hood, just want to make sure this is the right one to spend the money on!

Get this together so we all can benefit...I think the hood's skeleton is great looking and seems to be solid...How much does it weigh, cost of shipping, and where is it coming from agian...Get this going so we don't get blue-balled on this deal. Thanks in advance!

You are right I could have sold them for more, but I just wanted to move them. Even with your group buy, after selling my eye lids I paid less. Hood on ebay for $288 buy it now + $120 in shipping - $40 for eyelids sale = $368.

The latch is metal.

I dont think they warranty the clear coat.

Unsure about other eyelids.

I have the hood on my car. I think I was actually the first person to buy one on the .org. The fitment is really good. Even though the edges are not "rolled" they are surpizingly smooth and good looking. I would definately suggest hood pins. The finish of the clear coat was ok, but after a good buffer and some swirl mark remover and wax it looked A+. My hood latch was a little too long, but the next hood I installed seemed not to have that problem. The clear coat finish also seem to be a lot better on the other hood. All in all everyone that has seen my car in person has liked the hood very much.

Here's my question: how difficult is it to install a new hood in a 4th generation Maxima? Truthfully I'm hoping to find a factory-installed hood at a salvage yard and use it in place of my current hood---the front edge of my hood has a fair bit of rust on it because the prior owner didn't take care of it.

My Maxima is a '95 and it looks like there's some bolts that I'd need to undo to remove my hood---but it looks to me as if they're nearly impossible to get at without taking off the fender or something.

Does anybody have any insight into the level of difficulty involved here? I'm not exactly skilled at car repairs and such, so trying to decide if this is even an exercise I want to attempt.

Thanks.

Seller e-mailed me back, but didn't really answer any questions. Here is what she did tell me.

They aren't rolled edges, she called them Smooth Edges (she is fixing the ebay auction page they use as it was false)
She also said the eyelids they bundle with the hoods are for US spec maxima and not for the cefiro head lights. She said the picture was just of cefiro ones she had in her gallery.

Other than that she didn't answer much else hehe

I have installed 2 so far. Both of them took about 3 hours a piece (that includes installing the hood pins this is the longest part). I would say the install is fairly easy (you will need two people because of the bulkiness of the hoods). Installing the hood pins is NOT for the weak of heart. You will be drilling holes in your brand new carbon fiber. There are only 4 bolts holding your hood to the car. They are located on the underside of the hood back by the firewall. You will also have to remove the stock hood struts. Removing takes 5 minutes.

Dubbya,

Since I'm hoping to get my hands on a standard factory hood from a salvage yard, I shouldn't have to install the hood pins, correct?

Thanks.

That is a really good price considering shipping charges. Shipping aside, eBay is probably the cheapest way to get hoods since there's so much competition. However, if anyone wants a hood in SoCal, it'd be $330 picked up w/ hood pins.

OEM Hoods will not require hood pins. Only time you would need to use them are if you have a carbon fiber/fiberglass hood, or if you some how broke the latching system of your oem.

i'm a little disappointed that the edges are not rolled, but i'm not building a showcar either so i think i can live with that...

can't be too picky if i want a good deal right

Just curious, when installing the eylids did you shave off the nubs?
I know many have said their eyelids do not fit, and this refering to different vendors but they never stated whether or not they shave the nubs of.
On my eyebrow, the fit perfect, but i shaved the nubs off.

For the cefiros, there aren't any nubs to shave off so the eyelids go right on. But to have these fit the stock headlights, the nubs will need to be shaved and the side of the eyelids where they wrap around the headlight lense (adjacent to the grille) need to be dremeled off to fit properly. This compensates for the small gap between the corner and headlight.
