what about steering???

Basically the steering on my maxima SUCKS. It's pretty sad that my moms FX35 suv drives better than my maxima...is there anything that can be done about it??? It's super light and feels sloppy. Plus the steering wheel is way too big. I was looking into a smaller wheel but the majority of aftermarket wheels don't provide for an airbag. Also, a wheel of a G35 or FX35 could possibly fit but with the airbag I'm looking at $1500. Is the steering wheel on the 5.5 gen smaller? because I know it has a different trim but I'm guessing thats it.

So basically, are there any steering modifications out there? Something that would increase the steering "resistance" and feel. thanks.

what width tires do you have?

235/45r17's on stock 17" 6spokes in our 2000 SE had plenty of resistance

or you could put a smaller pulley on your power steering pump

thats the same tire size I have, but I wouldnt say there's plenty of resistance. Maybe I'm just expecting too much from a maxima, but having driven a g35 and fx35 there is definately a huge difference in steering.

Huge neagative camber! Did it for me...

The FX is built on the same platform as the 350Z and G35c (i.e. not the same platform as the Max), so the steering is probably totally different. I also wouldn't be shocked if the FX's suspension has a lot of caster, because that'd do it too. It's not likely that you'll be able to get the same feel on your Max.

If you could somehow run a lot of caster in the front suspension, that'd do the trick... but unfortunately there isn't a way to do that with the Max's front suspension. There probably isn't anything you can really do, short of buying camber plates and running a lot of negative camber, and/or installing a smaller pulley as MrGone suggested. But the pulley might have to be custom-made... or else someone's gonna have to do a lot of looking for one from another car that'd fit.

Bah. I prefer the buttery smooth steerin of my Maxima than my FX35. And I also prefer the larger wheel over the smaller steering wheels. The FX35/G35 could stand to be a wee bit more loose when it comes down to the steering wheel.
