I plan on rebuilding my tranny since I have a leak and want it in tip-top shape before switching over to amsoil gear oil. I have read motorvate's write-up and it's very helpful but he drains the gear oil from what he refers to as the "gear selector sensor/switch?). This is leaking on my tranny (i know it's a common problem) so I'd like to replace it (already tried using sealant but it didnt help). Thing is I doubt this is the actual name for it because I haven't been able to find the part anywhere. All I can find are camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, neutral safety switch, etc... Anyone know what it's actually called? Thanks a bunch

 

I think it is called the gear selector switch, either way it's $20 from the dealer.

 

Really? That's strange because no matter where I look online I can't find anything being sold as gear selector switch. I guess I'll just have to call the dealer and let them know what I'm looking for. Thank god it's a cheap part though! Thanks for your help

Isn't that on top of the tranny?

I'm guessing it's the reverse sensor cuz it's one of the lowest sensors on the tranny (driver side, kinda brown colored, size of silver dollar)

Yeah that sounds more like the one i'm talking about. It's at the bottom of the tranny on the driver's side (you can remove it to drain the gear oil instead of the drain plug if you want). It's black around the edges, brownish orange in the center, and attaches to the tranny with one bolt. I'd say it's about the size of a silver dollar too. Thanks for the help I'll look into it I just hope it isn't much more than $20. That thing breaks VERY easily and it is worth the extra hassle to drain your tranny with the drain bolt rather than taking the easy way out and removing the sensor because it will either break or start leaking. I just want to get my tranny in tip top shape and fix the leak before switching over to the amsoil because I know the synthetic gear oil will leak tons if I dont make sure everything is sealed nice and tight.
