Rear backup sensors for Maxima

Just wanted to know if somebody knows who's the owner of this car, and how was this mod done. Would this be an easy mod? Looks very clean...

Well, you'd have to drill into the bumper....but, if you got the sensors painted to match you'll hardly notice them.

I install these all the time. I haven't installed it in a maxima yet but, it's the same process.

I just saw this auction on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true

If the display unit comes in sand color or something similar to my frost interior, I think I'm buying. I guess we could always paint the sensors to match my smoke colored Max....

And by the way RABENOJA, how do you power that system? Do I have to run a wire to the battery, has batteries, feeds from the reverse lights???

The picture doesn't look real to me. I think it was doctored. You can see some distortion around the edge of each sensor. However, I think the picture closely depicts what a quality mod would look like. Like Rabenoja said, if the sensors were painted the same color as the car they would be less noticeable.

You can wire them up to the reverse lights directly or there is a light green/white wire in the driver's kick panel that shows positive when you put the car in reverse.

I personally would just go directly to the reverse lights. There are a few different systems out there, so you might have to run a speaker or a display unit into the cabin of the car.

oh...ps...if you do paint the sensors make sure that the paint is not too thick. Otherwise the sensors will false all the time.

I wouldn't mind having something like this, even if it's just for the cool factor (I already know how to park )... I think it'd help to have fronts as well for people with kits, so they don't get hooked on parking blocks and what-not...

But still, the main reason I haven't messed with anything like this is because it's not very integrated... even the ones with a visual aid only have a crappy display. It would be cool if you could have some kind of integrated display on the info screen or something showing you a picture of the car and sensor input and what-not, but I know that's gonna be pretty close to impossible.

Although I suppose you can hack something together converting the input from the sensors if you have a computer in the car. Time to send some emails...

What we need in NYC is something that fu*ks up the car of the as*hole who bangs into you when parking. Sorry had to vent.

100% agreed Warren. I'm thinking chrome metal spikes about 6" long. That should do it.

I was gonna patent the spike suit for when I'm on the subway, but then I moved to the suburbs and dropped the whole thing...

But I agree though... something like this would be for wow factor (if that)... I know how to park, what worries me is the **** that can't, and he'll break every one of the sensors when he taps the bumper...

I think that one is cool, but if you replace the mirror with theirs you lose the compass, HomeLink and the autodim sensor (if you have those).

I like that 8 sensor setup they have though... if I could find somebody to install those I'd probably pick it up. I suppose I could install them myself, but I just got a new front bumper and there's no way I'm drilling into it myself

Not to mention that I'm still looking into a path outside the car so I could mount a rearview camera...

the most useless mod I did was putting in my reverse camera... judging distance using it......forget about it.... these are cool...i like the concept but I'd rather see them make something that senses someone opening their door into mine and then bang a net goes out and the harder they fight to get loose the tighter it gets and they exhaust themselves and pass out in the hot sun which dehydrates them and they suffer from heat stroke.... yeah something cool like that....

WOW, talk about bringing a thread back to live. 2005 to 2012. That is what? 7 years ago? Wow.

My car came with backup sensors, so I cannot comment. I always thought having a backup camera serves better purpose than backup sensors. But I am content with what I have.

I thought this thread did expain how to do it. If not, I am sure someone else would help you out.

Goodluck.

Yep...installed a 4 sensor set a fortnight ago. No problem drilling holes in bumper etc. My main problem was locating the buzzer. In my previous Maxima it worked well installed under the back parcel shelf but in my 2004 Maxima could not hear it...so I removed the parcel shelf and drilled a small hole thru the covering over the high stop light cover and mounted it on top so as to see the lights displayed in the unit plus hear the buzzer. Any other help just sent a email.

I installed backup sensors as well as a camera in my 1999 Maxima and found the buzzer was more useful than the camera. Everyone to their own views. Only installed buzzer in my latest Maxima.

Sounds like an expensive mod if you have to buy the sensor, pay to install it and the pay someone to colour match it to your car.But I guess some people need it
