I'm back, for those of you who don't know me.....pics.....

I have been a member here for some time, and recently had been looking for another 4th Gen 5 speed, for a daily driver. I found one in PA, and flew up to pick it up, after some friends there checked it out ahead of time. The Max had 178K miles, some dings and scratches, but nothing major visually that would stop the deal. I plan on correcting some little blemishes, and I am getting brand new factory floor mats, in graphite, as well as stripping the tint, and doing the whole car. I am also going to shampoo the carpet, which has some minor dirt stains.

Mechanically the car was sound, except for a clutch that finally decided to go after 178K miles. That got the price reduced though, as Brick, the former owner, kicked in part of the cost to replace it, which was done in Durham NC, at, "Michael Jordan", Nissan.

While cleaning Billy today I found that he had indeed been taken care of, regardless of the little wear items, as the paint shined up well and the bugs and debris on the front came off very easily. The car also drives even better than my last two, runs stronger and feels even smoother.

Here are the pics. I should also mention that Billy is what Brick called his car, which he has owned since it was new.

D@mn, that car looks to be in good shape. Is there some damage (scratches or bubbling) on the right rear quarter panel or is that just a reflection from the sun shining on it?

It's just a reflection there, but there are few scratches and dings. Nothing major though.

Try some of the quality scratch removers, eg. Meguiars. If you have door dents and the paint isn't broken, try a good paintless dent removal shop. I swear by them.

looks real good, its amazing how those miles dont mean much with the vq ! im up to 160,000 and it just might as well be 30,000. looks real nice and clean, and dont let your 4th gen beat your 350z in a race, it would make the Z feel bad ! lol

Good idea for a daily driver to save the 350Z. Now you're going to have to buy a winter beater to save the Maxima, lol!

Considering that my Z ran 13.6's stock, and now has a few mods, no worries.

This Maxima runs better than my first and second 4th Gen's though, so I may be tempted to take it to the track, just once.

what kind of deal you got for that 4th gen if you dont mind me asking? It really had to make sense financially to fly out to PA and drive it back to GA...with those kind of miles the car would not be worth more than 3 grand.
But what a very nice condition for its age!

It was an outstanding deal. Air Tran is pretty cheap too.

BTW, there wasn't a Maxima SE 5 speed this nice in the whole country, for the money, at least not advertised. I was the first caller, after it posted, and the ad was pulled right after I committed, as he was getting a lot of calls.

The miles are nothing on a well taken care of Maxima, and this one runs better than my first two 4th Gen's. He was also screening potential buyers, as he wanted his baby to go to a good owner, someone who would take care of it. He also had every single receipt from every service, or work done to the car, in a file, which he gave me, along with the original booklets.

I could sell this car here for $5K easily, and dealers are still getting around $6,500 to $7,000 retail, even with the miles, especially one this nice, with a 5 speed.

I won't though, as this is the Maxima I have been looking for, as I never should have sold my last.

Thanks, the interior was definitely taken care of, aside from some carpet wear.

I am replacing the mats too, with brand new factory mats, that are graphite in color.

Great looking car, but if I read correctly, you still haven't named a price. Thats cool if you don't wanna tell the .org about the price you got, but if you don't mind...I'd like to know as well.

even with AirTran tickets being cheap, I bet the round trip set you back at least $500, including meals, gas, tolls, motel, etc. I disagree that miles are nothing on a well taken care of Maxima, at least not that kind of miles. When you are buying a car of this age and mileage, the past car history can do you little good. Complete bul**** that you can sell that car for $5000, you'd be lucky to get 3500 for it. Either you were so desperate to find any 4th gen 5-speed to go out and make that kind of a trip, or someone sold you this car for $1,000 (which is, for free). I am not hating, but just amazed at you going halfway across the country to buy a car.

Wow, looks nice! I like Rosewood Maxima's a lot and being a 5 speed makes it even better! I had to fly to Toronto to pick up my Maxima and then I drove 1000 miles northwest, back home. It was a lot of fun and definitely worthwhile.

It was less than what you said, but out of repect for the former owner, I will not say. It was worth the money. Look up an Air Tran fair for Philadelphia, one way, then figure in another 1 and 3/4 tank fulls, plus food, and its still under $300.

Here the cars are going for $5K+ with the mileage, and if you buy at a dealer, we're talking $6,500-$7,000 in good to excellent condition.

I completely disagree with you about the condition of the car too. If it was taken care of, and this one still had the original clutch, and every single oil change and service record, it will last over 250K+ miles without a major overhaul. This car is in better condition than my last two 4th Gens, and runs even smoother, so it was obviously taken care of. I also had the car checked out by very knowledgable friends who live in Philly before making the trip.

You also will not find very many 5 speed Rosewood SE's anywhere.

Do a search on http://autotrader.com and tell me how many 97-99 SE 5 speeds in this condition you find, then try to find a Rosewood. I saw one other for a good price, but it had rust and a lot of other wear.

I have already received an offer from a Nissan Tech, who first offered over $4K if I would sell it to him, and then tried to go up, as I walked out of the service bay, telling him I would not sell it to anyone.

You have a right to your opinion, but I think it's bent.

This is about one of the most asinine things I think I've ever heard someone say. Leave the guy alone to enjoy his new car, damn. I just sold a 1995 240sx with a 5spd conversion and 150k miles for $5k, sold in a week. Blue book was $2300. Anything is possible. What's with the "so desperate" comment? He has a car that he likes, its not your money.

car looks taken care nicely.

i dont see how someone could say it doesnt matter how well taken care of a car is when it gets up to having 178K miles. i mean its a VQ solid engine.....the VG's and VE engine have been known to last 300k+ and the VQ im sure could go that long too. if you say it doesnt matter if you take care of a car when it reaches 178k because thats basically the end of the road well then youre on crack.

They did a pretty nice job fixing up that Impala. I like the blue decals and the bars up front...much nicer than the ones up here. My cousin just bought an ex cop-car Impala for pretty cheap.
