How much Brake Fluid?

Hi guys

Getting my new SS brake lines installed tomorrow, along with my headers *rubs hands with glee*. Maximum tuning doesnt carry a dot 5 fluid, so I want to take some up with me to have for when they bleed the lines.

How much fluid does the 5.5 gen take?

I recently bled my lines...I used just a little over a pint to completely flush the lines....so I had to buy two pints of fluid...I think you will be fine with 1 pint...the reason why I used a little more than 1 pint is cuz I flushed out the system real good...so extra fluid was required

if you just get a quart you will be fine. like mentioned above a bit more than a pint is REQUIRED but bleed a bit extra, it never hurts.

Went out to Pep Boys, all they had was GUNK brand fluid. I didnt purchase it. Is it safe to use Dot5 on ABS brakes?

The place that is doing my brake lines has Dot4. Will that suffice?

Dot 5 brake fluid is only used on race aplications...The reason is because it isn't hydroscopic meaning mixes well with moisture. It's a synthetic fluid that seperates itself from water. Dot 3 and 4 will absorb moisture. The problem you have with dot 5 even though it has higher temp. rating, is over time every brake system takes moisture in and you need the brake fluid to mix with the moisture so it will hold good pressure.

It should be flushed out way to often. Racers who use dot 5 flush there brakes every race. Dot 4 will work plenty well for anything yuo put your max through.

I recently bought a quart of Valvoline Syn-Power Brake Fluid as part of modest upgrade to include performance pads and SS lines. The fluid exceeds DOT3 and 4 requirements. I did all the reading and this is very good stuff for a daily driven ride. Here's a fluid comparison:

Brake Fluid Dry Boiling Point Wet Boiling Point Suggested List Price
AP SUPER 600 590°F 410°F $18.00/16.9oz. .
CASTROL SRF 590°F 518°F $69.99/33.8oz.
NEO SUPER DOT610 610°F 421°F $15.00/12oz.
