My car goes in tomorrow for check on the slipping. The
service manager say's that prior to TCM being installed, he can check and adjust voltage bias to 5.6? He said he has done 2 y2k models already. This guy is pretty straight shooter, and said dealer cost on the part for the TCM is
$900 wholesale. He said that is why so many dealers are difficult to get upgrades. The adjustment is on the TSP?,
not the TCM. The TCM is the part in the service bulletin NTB00-039. Part # 3y100 is the new part. Has anyone heard about this minor adjustment ($35.00) dealer cost instead of doing the TCM change? Is this a ruse or line of BS? Please post tonite if you can so I will know prior to going in.
Either way I will post results.

I don't know, but I know my dealer replaced the TCM and it made a world of difference.

I think he's yanking your chain

Here is an email I got from Courtesy Nissan when requesting a price quote for a TCM:

We can order it for you Jon. Your price is $375.26 + shipping.

Courtesy Nissan
1777 North Central Expressway
Richardson, Texas 75080
800-527-1909
Fax 972-234-4924
e-mail: courtesy@kag-1.net
website: http://www.courtesy-nissan.com

Unless Courtesy is smoking crack or there is something else that needs to be swapped out when a TCM is replaced, then this guy is full of it.

TCM = Transmission Control Module
TSB = Technical Service Bulletin

Signs of slipping: very long delay (about 1-1.5 seconds) in shifting from 1st gear to 2nd. If your car was made after April 00, then don't worry about it. Otherwise try and get it fixed (sooner than later).

How to see if you're slipping? Take your car hard up a hill (doesn't have to be steep) and you'll definitely notice a hesitation when upshifting.

ummmm... TPS is...

throttle position sensor. and yes they should be checked if you can get them too. many 2kers have found it slightly off. it helps with the shifting points and obviously the bucking with autofuel cutoff.

geez, I leave for 5 days and you guys forget all this stuff we've talked about 100 times already
