i have the transponder under the dash in another key for the remote start so the key without one will work if the key fits

the guy that installed the remote start for my other maxima told me that you won't be able to turn the car on with the key...you will have to turn the car on with the remote start then stick the key in the ignition and turn it to on then you can drive...that's kinda too much work.

no the transponder from the orginal key is right next to the ignition so any key will work as long as it is cut the right way

i don't think that will work, the key is mounted in a bypass box and it sends a signal only when the remote starter is used, otherwise it doesn't send a signal in order to keep your imobilizer to work.

u can very easily give the transponder box constant ground, then the ignition cylinder will always have the signal from the key

as crazy as this sounds, i have a way of POSSIBLY this working. the immobilizer is nothing more than a sensor that has to be near the ignition. if you want to really go above and beyond, get a spare key, open it up, take the sensor out, open up the switchblade and place the sensor in there, and you should be good to go. if done like that, and the space is there, then this WILL work as the immobilization sensor just has to be near the ignition and in no way connected to the ignition.

im pretty sure it is a simple thing to get around the immobilizer. most of the people who have remote starters in the later model year maxima probably have gotten around the immobilizer with the programmed key that is hidden.

im fairly confident that the keyfob plays no part in engaging/disengaging the immobilizer since. we can install aftermarket alarms that are controlled by aftermarket keyfobs... so it is obviously the programmed key that is important.

the biggest question that needs to be answered is: which generation and which model nissan vehicle uses the same key blank as the 5th generation maxima?

i got this list right off the ebay auction listing:

83-98 NISSAN MAXIMA,
93-99 ALTIMA,
83-99 240SX,
82-99 SENTRA,
87-98 PATHFINDER ,
84-96 300 ZX and 280 ZX,
XTERRA 00-03,
FRONTIER 98-03,
PICK UP 82-97.

i would think possibly the xterra or newer frontiers? anyone?

i dont think you'd have to go as far as to put it into the actual switchblade unit. why not simply put it near the ignition somewhere?

well, that's very true as well. what we are avoiding here is completely throwing away the *advantage* of having an immobilizer unit. i have a key in my car. it ONLY turns on when remote start kicks in. i could very easily connect it to an ACC. wire and it would work whenever the car turned on, but then i would kill the whole use of the "feature", which BIGGS_02 has already brought up. my reason for having it like mentioned was so that we can still have the security of immobilization. that's all.

ok so in the end we have no idea if the transponder is the only differnence between the two keys (98 & 00) i have also spoken with the guy with the keys and he as one with the nissan symbol and it says maxima on it. i told him yesterday to make it opnly available to anyone with the org and he could probabaly sell alot of them so can someone find out if the keys are the same. the transponder issue that has been spoken about isnt the question i have. i just want to know if the key can be cut to work on my ignition and doors

they might not even need your car, but then youd have to pay the dealer to progam a key, probably 1hr or so.

OK, I just confirmed the keys from an 03 Extera and an 02 Frontier are cut the same and fit into the ignition of my 02 Maxima. I don't know about the transponder issue but the keys are cut the same.
