the guy that installed the remote start for my other maxima told me that you won't be able to turn the car on with the key...you will have to turn the car on with the remote start then stick the key in the ignition and turn it to on then you can drive...that's kinda too much work.

as crazy as this sounds, i have a way of POSSIBLY this working. the immobilizer is nothing more than a sensor that has to be near the ignition. if you want to really go above and beyond, get a spare key, open it up, take the sensor out, open up the switchblade and place the sensor in there, and you should be good to go. if done like that, and the space is there, then this WILL work as the immobilization sensor just has to be near the ignition and in no way connected to the ignition.
im pretty sure it is a simple thing to get around the immobilizer. most of the people who have remote starters in the later model year maxima probably have gotten around the immobilizer with the programmed key that is hidden.
im fairly confident that the keyfob plays no part in engaging/disengaging the immobilizer since. we can install aftermarket alarms that are controlled by aftermarket keyfobs... so it is obviously the programmed key that is important.
the biggest question that needs to be answered is: which generation and which model nissan vehicle uses the same key blank as the 5th generation maxima?
i got this list right off the ebay auction listing:
83-98 NISSAN MAXIMA,
93-99 ALTIMA,
83-99 240SX,
82-99 SENTRA,
87-98 PATHFINDER ,
84-96 300 ZX and 280 ZX,
XTERRA 00-03,
FRONTIER 98-03,
PICK UP 82-97.
i would think possibly the xterra or newer frontiers? anyone?

Hey guys, just some info, i talked to the company selling the switchblade keys, they work out of brooklyn and they can make keys with the transponder chip in them they just charge $65.00 dollars for it and they need to see your car they said. Anyone local check it out. i have a 2003 maxima, so i have been thinkin about gettin this for a while now.
ok so in the end we have no idea if the transponder is the only differnence between the two keys (98 & 00) i have also spoken with the guy with the keys and he as one with the nissan symbol and it says maxima on it. i told him yesterday to make it opnly available to anyone with the org and he could probabaly sell alot of them so can someone find out if the keys are the same. the transponder issue that has been spoken about isnt the question i have. i just want to know if the key can be cut to work on my ignition and doors
why not just get a transponder one... has anyone sent the guy an email about that?
We serve NY metropolitan area,we cut and program transponder electronic keys and sell and program keyless entry remote transmmiters. WE HAVE WIDE VARIETY OF KEYS AND REMOTES.JUST ASK,WE MIGHT HAVE IT
