I think this is how my next setup will go

I am about to get myself 2 Rockford fosgate 8" HX2's. I'm planning on using them in the rear deck with the stock cardboard shelf removed and the metal beneath it cut to hold the box then use 3/4 - 1" MDF to create a baffle that will be the same shape as the cardboard piece that was there and use that as the top of the box, then build below it for the rest of it. I will have cut a square hole in the metal and bolt everything down. The box will be in a slot ported configuration. Does anyone have any advice or tips for me before I do this (it will probably be a few months before I do it but still :P

Take your time. A re-do on a job like that will be time consuming. Make sure you seal off the trunk. With the subs firing through the rear deck, you will need to do this to eliminate waves boucing to the trunk and back out possibly caising cancellation. So you will be mounting the baffle to the rear deck? What will you use as grills for the subs on the cardboard portion of the rear deck. Just something to think about. Sounds like a ton of fun! Let us know if we can help.

if im getting it correctly youll be doing something like my old car. Realize that that package shelf adds a little stability to the car and cutting it can do some ill things to your handling.

I would also consider that that could be a considerable amount of weight kind of high in the trunk which may further mess with handling.

other than that I would say a custom fiberglass rear deck to lift the subs up and maybe a glass box underneath, to save on weight and give that custom look.

Oh I will definately take my time. The trunk won't need to be sealed off the way you're thinking because I will actually have the box built underneath with the ports coming out from the front in a slot port(it will be sealed up between the baffle and metal frame regardless). I will have the subs flush mounted or maybe even use a thicker baffle so I can mount them lower in the front of the box, and have carpeting over the baffle, no more cardboard shelf, I'm just going to throw it out

that was how my mids were setup in the rear of the last one, kind of what im getting that your saying? it ended up making me have to add a rsb and sway due to the metal cut out visible in the middle without its grille on.

I was impressed with one 10 in my trunk and that was in a tiny sealed box, I think a slotted box on the rear deck should be sick, and they are very very nice subs . The one's I am getting are brand new too

Something similar however I want the subs and baffle to be flush with if not lower than the top of the rear seat as the stock carboard shelf is now. I think the new baffle and box being in that space will help with the loss in stability from cutting the rear deck. although I don't expect it to affct things too much.

No biggie really. I may have misinterpreted a bit. Hes a good guy though. I should also have figured when he asked for PowerBass, he might not be so definite. LMAO

HAHA sorry man I thought the other guy was more definate than me. Obviously I don't need you to hold them for me anymore. I think I will like these HX2's just as much as I did the other one I had. They are brand new too. You are up for doing this install with me though, right Don?

BTW the powerbass extreme actually looks decent as far as construction, I just figured you could get them for a good price for me

Sounds like this will be a fun install. Would be super cool with a properly placed plexi window to show off the subs

Sounds like more of a pain then an IB install. Can't wait to see pics. Spend a lot of time planning/measuring. When mounting to my rear deck (in IB config, and in a 4th gen), I found it was pretty key to mount to the two different "levels" of metal on the rear deck. The "center metal", if that makes any sense, was not stable enough on its own to not shake tremendously if that was the only thing the baffle was mounted to. I would guess in my car it would have been the same if I was attaching a sealed box.

Have fun!

Hey at least I didn't tell you to hold onto a set of Arcs till I got paid. Though after much number crunching, head banging, and flipping of a coin...

I'm going with the Cadence setup

Ya I think thats the plan to use a 1 - 1.5 inch baffle on top of the sheet metal, then use a slot ported box built in the cutout of the rear deck. I don't want to go IB because I'm pretty sure the output will be greater with the ported box, either way, I just like the idea of having a ported box firing into the cabin. I'm pretty sure it will be more of a pain than an IB install, but I think in the end the results will be nice. Plexi is a very good idea, however I don't plan to tint the rear windows or any windows for that matter, so hidden under carpet is a definate.

I was talking about a plexi window on the "side" of the box, so when you open your trunk, you can see (maybe behind a panel to hide it) into the box and see the woofers and port firing into the cabin.

You may not need to cut out as much rear deck as you'd think.

AHHHH plexi is a very very good idea, maybe with a CCD in it too... hmmm now you got me thinking

Not needing to cut as much as I think huh? That sounds good to me lol.
